Guys, save your energy. UT will never be good at basketball. We can't even field a respectable football team. Our athletic department needs to be gutted, including Hart. Once we go 5-7 again next year with no bowl again, maybe people will wake up. For the time being, just save your energy and go hiking or spend time with your kids. UT athletics isn't worth your time in its current state.

If UT is not going to hire coaches and Athletic Directors who care about Tennessee .. Then close up shop.. Look at the football team NOW.. A coach came in here talking about how great a opportunity for a FB player to come to UT. And now his recruiting is what 3rd in the Nation. Gonzo is just passing through making a fortune as he plays coach .. He is not a SEC level coach or he just can not teach players how to be winners. Gonzo needs to go. :peace2: How can anybody think Gonzo is what UT men' BB needs... Their disgusting to watch .. Watching them play FLA was a joke .. UT just paid Gonzo to get schooled at FLA.:peace2::whistling:

Who were they supposed to hire?? No one else wanted the job. They got the best coach that was willing to take the job.

He can't coach!! He can t motivate the players or develop them.

However; he runs a clean program. He won't embarrass the University OFF of the court. I know he is an embarrassment ON the court though. He also can recruit very well, NOT great but very well.

We have recruited very well in basketball? You have no clue what you are talking about. Stokes came here because he had no other options really other then KY unless he wanted to sit out a whole year of basketball. We got Hubbs who's a five star and is hurt right now, and Josh who's developed pretty well. We have recruited three good players in three years of recruiting.

Greg Marshall would have been a great hire too, and he desperately wanted to come here. He wanted to come here when Buzz was fired as well. Hamilton in football passed on Kevin Sumlin who was respectfully 8-5 and 10-4 in 2008 and 2009 at Houston for Dooley who went 5-7, 8-5, and 4-8 at LA Tech. If anyone is trying to argue that Hamilton isn't to blame then you either don't fully understand the situation or you don't want to believe that one man can single handling destroy a University's athletics. Cheek and Hart aren't any better either. My best friend who's like second family to me has a person in their family who sits through hiring processes at UT. He won't say much about it but the two things I've specifically heard about Hart and Cheek is that neither of them know how to make UT apealing, and both are trying to make UT more then what it should be in the academic department. I know for a fact that Charlie Strong was very interested in taking the job, so much that talk was he was our next coach until Hart and Cheek ruined the negotiating process with him. Strong's biggest concern at UT was recruiting guys that could qualify if we continued to press the hard, unnecessary academic standard for athletes down the road.

That's a crock of BS. Charlie played UT for a raise at UL. And then he left UL the very next year for a really big raise at Texas. Texas is about to find out that Charlie aint worth it. But that'll be their problem, not mine.

Is it BS? We weren't really in a position to turn Strong down. We had already lost on 6-7 coaches we wanted and had Butch not accepted we were in big trouble. We wanted Strong and I know this because I know someone who's inside UT sitting through the process. What you want to believe is your own choice, but UT wanted Strong before they want Butch and that's fact. So many UT fans don't realize how bad of a image Cheek and Hart give Ut. The academics standards they want to push here would limit even the best of coaches here. We have already seen what has happened to Jabo Lee etc. Strong sat down and discussed numerous topics with Hart and Cheek, and in the end they never could come to agreement on money or on academic standard going forward. We had to have a coach who would push academics this past year so we could avoid suspension come 2014. Butch just became the man for the job, but the worry among many Vol fans still is that Cheek still wants to pursue higher academic standards to get into UT for athletes. Many big time coaches stray far away from being more tied down by their own university then they already are from the NCAA. This issue along with the unwilliness to pay big money for a big coach has prevented us from landing a big time hire. I love Butch Jones but you can't negate the fact he was our 7-8 best opition. It makes you worry as a Vol fan just what might happen if Zo is fired or Butch needs Hart and Cheek to help him get big time assistants.

Which part about it is silly? Thinking UT, who has no historically significant basketball achievements, will somehow become a consistent tournament team? Yeah, that is pretty silly.

So we just accept that UT is a perennial mediocre, middle of the pack SEC team? Never strive to be a consistent winner?
