Here is what I think the SEC schedule should look if we had three permanent opponents each year. I tried to make this keeping rivalries and trying to be fair to each team.
Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky
Arkansas: Texas, LSU, Missouri
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia, Vandy
Florida: Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee
Georgia: Florida, Auburn, Missouri
Kentucky: Florida, Vandy, Alabama
LSU: Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss
Miss st: Ole Miss, South Carolina, Oklahoma
Missouri: Arkansas, Georgia, Texas A&M
Ole Miss: LSU, Miss St, South Carolina
Oklahoma: Texas, South Carolina, Miss St
South Carolina: Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miss St
Tennessee: Alabama, Florida, Vandy
Texas: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Texas A&M: LSU, Texas, Missouri
Vandy: Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn

No way we wouldn't have Kentucky as a permanent
I don’t think we would have Kentucky because we would have too easy of a schedule. We own Kentucky and Vanderbilt. I get that it is our longest rivalry but it has not been competitive since the 50s. Kentucky has won 7 times since 1961. We will have to cut rivalries with only three permanent opponents

Why are yall so scared of competition? I want Florida, Georgia, and Alabama every year. They can kick Vandy and Kentucky out of the SEC for all I care. Those 3 are our rivals not Vandy or Kentucky.
That's cool. And then get a rotation of Texas, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina and Auburn one year...great schedule.

I don't understand people wanting to throw away the kentucky and vandy rivalries. They are i believe the 3rd and 6th most played games in the sec. Can't se a world where we don't play both and I'll quit watching football completely if we don't play the gumps. I hate em but can't imagine a cfb without TSIO.

If they do none of this “trying to be fair”. Alabama has no business playing Kentucky every year lol. Do each schools biggest rivalries/longest lasting rivalries whatever works best overall. If that means Bama gets us, Auburn and LSU while we get Bama, Vandy and Kentucky. Oh well lmao. Plus Kentucky over Florida has nothing to do with being scared for me personally, it’s just a way longer tradition to kick Kentuckys ass every year then to play UF.

Why can’t you tell the difference between what a poster “wants” and what a poster “thinks.”

No one said, “this is what I want to happen.” They’re discussing what would/will happen.

The Florida rivalry is a manufactured one based on the division split. Tennessee has played Kentucky more than any opponent in its history. It’s the 3rd most played series in SEC history. You have to remember, the schedule won’t be set up just based on what Tennessee wants. They give every team its top conference rival. Tennessee is Kentucky’s top conference rival. Tennessee is Vanderbilt’s top conference rival. Alabama is Tennessee’s top conference rival. So those are likely the 3 opponents, whether they “want” to play them or not.

The opinion has nothing to do with being “scared.” It’s a realistic view of what is likely to happen.

Only issues I could see: LSU Florida rivalry game is removed. South Carolinas opponents seem pretty random. Maybe keep the Georgia South Carolina game somehow.

Permanent games made sense when it was a 10 team league and later when it had divisions. Now, they’re a relic. Just rotate the schedule and play everybody so SOS can have some parity.
This!

Permanent games at this point are dumb and there's no need for it. Just set everybody to play everybody the same number of times over an X year period and call it a day. Why anyone would want to set ourselves up with the gauntlet of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama (or whatever) EVERY YEAR is beyond me. Making the playoffs is about wins/losses (mainly). Why make it harder than necessary? The goal is to make the playoffs, period, and see what happens beyond there. I know traditionalists won't like it, but that's the era we live in.

It's also basically the equivalent of wanting to play/schedule Notre Dame, Ohio State, AND Florida State in the same year. I get the desire to want to see marquee games, but at the same time we are hurting our chances to make the playoffs by purposefully setting up gauntlets others don't have to cross.

We were one of only 2 schools that played UGa and Bama every year. I don't give an F about fairness. And I want Tennesse to have the most wins and I don't care if we have the toughest schedule, that doesn't mean anything anyway. Play the local trade school and get a W.

We have played them for over 100 years. No way they are not in our three games.

College football has the greatest regular season of any sport. I don’t want that sacrificed for a couple of games in December and January. We did just fine this season playing Bama, Florida, UGA and Oklahoma. Those are 4 big boy football programs . Traditions can be maintained without losing our playoff contention.

How did you decide KY would be an AL permanent rival. They have no FB history. Their 3rd rival should be LSU.
True but I don’t know how the permanent opponents are chosen. LSU is the worst rivalry out of the three that Bama has. LSU has rivalries else were as well. I was trying to make the schedules more balanced instead of Alabama and Georgia playing three good teams and Texas and other teams playing worse teams like they did this year
