If the vols have this luck

I may be wrong but I think michigan state is the only bcs school to beat them in the past 4 yr's, since the oklahoma game I think, and boise won that

They also lost to Washington.

I just looked it up (I'm sick and bored.) Since that win over Oklahoma at the end of 2007, they're 5-2 against BCS schools. There were some wins over Oregon State and Arizona State I wasn't thinking of.

i feel like this thread has gotten side tracked. i think the point was that boise state is well coached, but i do agree they are the most talented team in their conference so maybe not as well coached as it appears at a glance...and boise would be an average team in a major conference. michigan state was not a good team this year and managed to beat them and the best win they had was probably byu. getting hyped up for 1 game a season is not the same as doing it week in week out.

What was Washington score vs LSU this year? like 44-3

I know that is why this thread was started...because Boise St. is beating Washington in there bowl game right now

To be fair, Washington has been very Jeckyl and Hyde this season. Bad losses to the likes of LSU and USC. But they hung around with Oregon and beat Stanford and Oregon State. So they can be very bad or really good.

oh, I knew I wasn't sure, I don't follow that much, but they showed his overall record and it was still impressive. Just be nice if Jones coaches up the way peterson does, I know the whole conference different thing, just wanna have hope!:dance2:

A Pacific Northwest Vol! Once I was out in Seattle when my sister used to live there and I called Craig Puki's folks to see if anybody wanted to go for a beer. But they didn't.

Chris Peterson has a .912 winning % which is pretty amazing.

Nick Saban has a .826 % at Bama.

One of these coaches is widely considered the best coach in the NCAA. Guess which one????

Apples to oranges, however, I would have been happy to have Peterson here.

Saban has gone 1,5,1,1,1 in recruiting the last five years. Give Peterson those players and he would do as well or better than Saban.

Hell, give ME Saban's recruits and I could coach them to a winning record.

Now as to HOW Saban gets those recruits....stay tuned. :)

I'm not sure that Petersen will ever leave Boise, but I would like to see what he could do at BCS school like Washington. Washington over the last two decades has been pretty much a middle of the pack PAC-12 team that has had a couple of really good years and a couple of really bad ones. In between it seems like they finsh right around .500 every year.

I think most will agree that Petersen is a damn good coach and him taking over a school like Washington would be a fair evaluation of just how good he is. Besides, he's a west coast guy and even if he were to leave Boise, it probably wouldn't be for a job on the east coast.

IMO given a couple of years, he could turn Washington into PAC contender most years.

I just looked it up and Boise St. out recruits most if not all the teams in the Big East, year after year they rank between 60-65.

So they're basically a Big East school in the Mountian West Conference.

I really hope Boise Joins the Big East next year...

So we can find out if they are overrated, and are a product of playing in a weak weak Weak conference. (Like I belive)

or If they are really that good, and Chris Peterson is a genius.

Well that really won't prove anything either. They will be joining a Big East that is shell of its former self. The new BE will be no different than the MW or WAC. A conference that has 1 or 2 dominant teams and the rest are cupcakes. Once Louisville and Rutgers leave, they will basically have BS and Cincy and maybe Houston but thats it. So they will have to play 1 maybe 2 "tough" conference games and maybe 1 or 2 real teams a year. This would be almost the exact same schedule difficulty they have faced since he took over as coach at Boise St.

So, basically if Butch Jones turns out to be as good of a coach as Chris Peterson, we'll be in great shape.

That's excellent news.

I was just thinking the same thing. They'd basically be Mississippi State - a 7 win program that occasionally sneaks up on a 9 win season. Peterson can obviously coach his ass off, but I don't think anybody's odds are good when they're out talented half the time they play.
If Petersen was in the SEC, he would be recruiting within the borders of the SEC and getting Southeastern players instead of California cast offs.

Is it easy to win bowl game after bowl game? Was it easy beating Oklahoma in a BCS game when they definitely had a top-5 team? Boise State is pushing Washington around in a bowl game right now as we speak.

Boise State begs the big schools to play them every year, and they are all scared. They preach speed everywhere and hard-nosed defense. If it's that easy, why aren't there more teams out there like Boise ST? It's not easy winning 10 Division-IA games year after year regardless of what conference you are in.

If they want to play the big schools then they need to get a big stadium.

then why doesn't every team in lower conferences have 8 losses over 7 years?
Because the other teams they play aren't very good. Boise St is the best team at the level they play at.

It really is an apples to oranges argument. Boise State is kind of like the "tallest midget" and every now and then the tallest midget will be taller than someone that doesn't have dwarfism. Hence the wins over UGA, VT, OU, and Oregon.

Ok, with the team he has now he might go 7-5 in the SEC. But what if he had the chance to recruit at a school like TN, with tradition and players like peyton manning, reggie white, arian foster etc.? After a year or two I think he would be doing just as well.

I know we look alot into what star a recruit is rated, and that is fine, but boise st never blows the doors off recruiting. They just showed chris peterson's record on espn, 8 loses in 7 years and a .912%! I know they are in a smaller conference, but they usually play and beat 2 bigger schools each year. It's in the coaching, if jones can coach our payers up I'm not saying he'll have this kind of record, just we don't have to be upset if he doesn't sign a whole class of 4 & 5 stars.

Why is it that the only fans that say the stars don't mean anything are fans from the schools that only get 2-3 star players. Look at the teams that have won the NCs recently, every one of them have had top 5 classes prior to winning their NC.

If they want to play the big schools then they need to get a big stadium.

There are just not enough people to support a big following. Boise is slightly larger than Knoxville, but Tennessee has nearly six times the population of Idaho.

The Vols have had 7 years of bad luck, it's time the Curse is reversed.....enough is enough
I'm just not sure how Luck will translate to Wins in the SEC......I do know that recruiting the best players will reduce the need for Luck
