If VA Tech can beat Ohio State, why wouldn't we have a shot?

The only thing I keep coming back to that gives me a glimmer of hope is we beat a better team than OK in SC last year with and inferior talented team to what we have this year. The only argument that might debunk this line of thinking is the apparent drop in talent on the OL.

You think USCe last year was better than OU this year? I don't agree with that specifically, but the concept seems defendable if you assume that the difference in those teams probably isn't much greater if at all than the difference between us this year and last.

I would say the odds of beating OU this year are about the same as the odds to beat USCe were last year.

We beleive the same thing, we just got there different ways lol.

We'll I admit I was wrong about Oregon, I do think we are better then them though and hope we schedule them in two years so we can return the favor.

For clarity, are you saying we are better than Oregon right now, or OU? or both?

Find me one post where you think I was clueless...

Ok.

That's funny because I can see this game going one of two ways...1, Vols hang all game and win by a field goal or losing by a field goal. 2, vols winning by 10 or more.

We are in contention for the playoff, just have to win the games on the schedule. If bama happens to be our only loss, I think we get in.
wtf?

The only reality check taking place in Norman, will be them gettin their asses beat down by the Volunteers.

I don't doubt your fanhood, I just doubt your mental connection to reality. And FTR, I gave you three quotes just all said by you very recently. There's plenty more where those came from.

How about "c", he's a ****ing idiot? Can we beat OU, it's possible, but to say we are a better team than them or Oregon is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

I was just trying to set him up lol. It feels wrong, like bullying the slow kid in class or something. I should stop lol. It is pretty obvious that he is in total content wallowing in his own ignorance.

This is exactly what I was thinking about him

To be fair OU would beat the hell out of OSU with or without Miller. Our main issue is the match up of our Oline with their Dline. We're young every where but talented. However talent is more game ready and effective with a few years in S&C. We've got top tier talent right now but we're having to put it on the field earlier than most perennial contenders would.

If the Oline can somehow play out of their minds and slow their front seven I think we can win. I think we matchup decent against them with our defense actually. Their special teams also are pretty good as well.

Miller being out has made OSU beatable. Just a point to think about: OU QB is one play from being out of the game just like Miller. Any player is one play away from being injured and out of the game. This is why there is no way to predict the outcome. If every player on both rosters that are healthy, stay healthy throughout this game, IMO we could lose by a couple of touchdowns. If any OU players go down, who knows.

Our talent is similar to OU's, that's a fact. If we played Oregon next year I think we could beat them. We wouldn't get blown out, that's for sure.

Virginia Tech is fairly good, Ohio State is not a very good team by either SEC or Oklahoma standards

I'll begin this post by acknowledging our youth & inexperience as well as our tremendous attrition the past several years. Everyone knows the recruiting rankings don't tell the entire story. However, after watching a considerably less 'talented' VA Tech dominate a perennial top 5 recruiting (and ranking) power in Ohio State last week, I can't help but think we might at least hang with OU, if not have a mild chance of pulling the upset.

Here are the average Rivals recruiting ratings the last four years for the teams involved in both games:

Virginia Tech 26
Ohio State 5

Tennessee 15
Oklahoma 14

Of course, our best talent heavily leans young, but there's no reason to think, with some luck and the right coaching, that we couldn't pull this one out. At the very least, we shouldn't go into the game with any kind of inferiority complex, which seems to be the attitude of some posters here. They play the game for a reason!

we are not va tech.
