If we added two 4 stars and a 5 star to the current list, where would that put us?

In all reality, Morley, G. Williams, and Faision are two 4 stars and a 5 star and Williams is almost a 5 star. I'm not sure if any of these guys are listed under our current signing class with stars beside their names but they are going to be on the field next year and it should count for something. I feel like people are forgetting that these guys should be included on that list since they are on the team. I am very dissappointed that we can't get a defensive lineman over Auburn when there is such a need and they already have 100 of them. Something just isn't right there. Since when has Clemson and North Carolina been more attractive schools than UT.

okay, so throw 5 star Warren in that list and we don't look too shabby. Probably in the top 20 or so if you look at it the way I'm describing it. However, how in the world did we not get any of those defensive lineman that were on the list. They all went to Auburn, NC, or clemson. What in the hell is Fulmer telling these guys? How can a team that has such a huge need for that position not get any of those guys when Auburn already has signed several of them and already had a good d-line anyway? What is going on to push guys to North Carolina over Tennessee or Clemson instead of Tennessee. Have we fallen that far? Does our reputation for getting defensive lineman to the NFL not mean anything? Could it be that we have a defensive coordinator that refuses to recruit and no one wants to play for him? Something is pushing these guys away from UT and I can't put my finger on it. Someone please tell me why we didn't get any of those big time defensive lineman and they all went to Auburn, Clemson, and NC.

Any chance he doesn't qualify or some loophole makes him ineligible?

Is he good enough to pick up the offense and shake of the rust over that short of a period?

He'll qualify. He went to Pellissippi this semester to make sure.

The Warren thing is confusing as hell and I've read up on it. But, I believe that he will still have to sit out the upcoming season due to transferring. The first appeal he won was to not lose a year of eligibility. Now he can be a redshirt sophomore in 2009 unless he wins another appeals case to see the field in 2008, which would make him a true sophomore.

As to if he's good enough, he was a Freshman All-American and really the only threat receiving that FSU had. He's really damn good. He'll play from the day he's eligible.

If the rumors are true about Chavis not recruiting, why in the %$^#& would a head coach put up with that kind of behavior from a coordinator? Isn't there someone out there that could do a better job. Ed Orgeron would have been a good person to put on the recruiting trail. I never heard his name mentioned among candidates for coaching positions.

The NCAA doesn't look to kindly on kids that just stop going to classes to get their way.

I don't agree with it, but that's the way they'll look at it. The NCAA sides with the schools 9 times out of 10.

Because Orgeron has been a great defensive coordinator

Are you accusing the NCAA of using reason and logic in a decision? How dare you!!!

Of course I can't complain...they did see the Smith case for what it was and allow him to play this year

What in the hell is Fulmer telling these guys?

The same thing he always tells recruits. If you come to UT, you'll have a chance to compete for the position and you will start when you earn it.

Some guys don't want to hear that. Some guys want the job handed to them unconditionally (see Simms, Chris) and other believe it when a coach lies to them and "guarantees" them a starting position. And the SEC has several coaches in it who are pathological liars anyway.

And some of the guys we recruited probably just liked another school better than UT. It happens sometimes. We don't have the luxury of having 50 SEC-caliber recruits in our own state and being able to pick 20-25 of them every year and have a top-10 class. Given that, the only way UT is ever going to recruit like Florida or Georgia is to buy them. And I'd prefer not being like Alabama.

He could have been put somewhere on the staff for recruiting purposes and there has got to be a better d-coordinator that will get off of his a_s and recruit.

I highly doubt Orgeron would have went from Head Coach to a DL coach and recruiting coordinator in the college ranks.

He went to the Saints to coach the DL there.

Give me the talent USC had, and I'd be a great defensive coordinator too. Orgeron is a f$%&ing joke, and if he ever ended up at UT, I'd be calling for Fulmer's head.

Orgeron was never the defensive coordinator at USC.

I've always heard that Orgeron was a top recruiter. Several posters on this site in the past have agreed that he was a good recruiter but not the best coach. My question is , Could we really do worse than Chavis? At least we would have someone who would actively recruit talented players. Apparently Chavis gets a pass on recruiting from what I've heard. How he pulls that off is beyond me. The saints must be out of their mind hiring a guy who is a terrible dl coach. What do they know about hiring coaches, they are only an NFL franchise.

That's a cute statement, but you're completely off. First of all Bowden has been at Clemson since 1999. I don't think that Fulmer has been losing out since then.... But I'll roll with it and just go with last year. I'm also only doing the 4/5* as well.

UT over Clemson:
Chris Donald 5
Ben Martin 5
Chris Walker 4
Rae Sykes 4

Clemson over UT:
Markish Jones 4

I honestly just think this is a down year, and people are bing in too much of a panic about it. It is fascinating to me that people also are so quick to dismiss the class we had 1 year ago.

Okay, i just looked at Rivals and if you put Warren and Morley in our list as 5 stars and Faison in as a 4 star, we immediately jump up 20 or so spots. The problem is that we didn't help ourselves much at the defensive line spot. Overall, it is not as bad as people are making it, including myself. It does suck though when you look at Alabama and ND's list and wonder how they got all of these players while sucking last year and we go to the SEC Champ game and win a New Years day Bowl and it doesn't help us a bit. Hell, it looks like it hurt us. Something is still not adding up when we have such a big need at the d-line spot and the players would rather wait in line at another SEC school to play.
