If we don't start closing games better

I'm tempering my expectations of this year's Vols at least until we get Maymon back. Without him, this team isn't prepared to scale the heights I thought they would and I don't see us doing much damage in the SEC. Hopefully, he'll be the spark that ignites the fireball.

I agree. With SEC play beginning tomorrow, there's no way we'll finish above 6th. This is just like last year's team that started out with that terrible loss to D-II Indianapolis. Like that team, we'll be the doormat of the SEC.

I understand what the OP is saying and agree overall. Honestly though, I could care less if we finish every game on the schedule and the post season this way as long as we win. Of course you want to see improvement over the course of the season, but we all want to win whether it be pretty or ugly.

I may have agreed with you had we lost both of our games, but it's much too early to tell. Getting Maymon back will likely improve our team.

I only got to listen to it on the radio, but it sounded to me like UT was playing well and built a nice lead by mid point of the 2nd half and then CCM had them take the air out of the ball. They did the same thing the first game. I'm not a big fan of this, but this is how some coaches do things. CBP did the same stuff. Build a big lead, start milking clock on the offensive end limiting the number of possession left in the game for both teams, get the W and go on to the next game. It's ugly to watch, or in my case listen to, but he's not the only coach that does this. As long as the game is a win, I seriously doubt CCM cares what the margin of victory is. Plus, this gives him a look at his players when milking the clock and running good late game offense is important, like protecting a 2-3 point lead in SEC play. These same guys seemed to be pretty good at that last year.

How much conditioning work is Maymon getting right now? A knee injury is tough on keeping up with basketball conditioning.

That's what I said my concern was awhile back...

He isn't even able to work out, he hasn't since they returned from Italy. So when he finally can start practicing and working out, then how long until game shape?

I'm really thinking its gonna be closer to January than it is December.

All i'm saying is, is if we have a lead against a good team and play like that the final 10 minutes we're in trouble.
