If we dont start Rick against FL

I'm still not sold that Clausen will be stellar. He played well against the lesser teams last year as well but was rendered generally useless by Auburn. But we will see.

his last two games he has played pretty damn good though milo. Pretty damn good. I dont care really who the qb is as long as we win. Put jim bob in for all i care, as long as we win.

This is a quote from Rick on utsports.com

QB Rick Clausen: "First of all, we're excited about the win. Their quarterback is very talented. Their defense is very good. They gave us everything we could handle. As you can see we have a lot to work on. It was exciting to get them down (early). But when you get them down you've got to keep them there. It was good to see us put the nail in the coffin at the end. Attention to detail separates the good teams from the great teams.

"Whether I'm starting or not doesn't matter. My job on this football team is to go out and be a leader. I have to lead the offense the best way I know how. I'm just glad we won. I'd like this question about the quarterback (starter) to stop."

Big ups to rick i think the throbing question about the starter is killing our qb's just leave them alone and let them play Football!!!

We'll never score with Clausen because he throws 2 yard passes just so his comp. % will be good. Ainge actually throws down field and tries to score.

Answer this question though.

Which QB are you more nervous about being in the game?

I think the obvious answer is Erik, for obvious reasons.

My thoughts exactly. Clausen isn't going to throw it through a brick wall, but I never worry about him making bad decisions.

He's more than serviceable and can be a good QB as long as we are able to run the ball.

Yes but I would be just as nervous if we had to make an 80-yard drive with a minute left and Rick under center.

Uh, Milo . . . Clausen DID go 80 yards at the end of the 1st half.

Say it's the same situation at the end of the game against LSU and they are playing with deep coverage. Can Clausen make it?

That's just it though, if we have to go with Erik in a situation like that, so be it.

I believe we have the talent that if we utilize it with Clausen under center we won't have situations where we have to go 80 yards with a minute left.

But if we do, we're not married to a 1 QB plan. We have the luxury of a solid backup in either.

Good point. I'm just hoping Ainge really picks it up. With Ainge's game and how Zabransky has looked so far, today is not a good day for Oregon QB's.

Actually Clausen sees the entire field and throws to the open receiver.....that increases his completion %. I agree that anything he throws 25 or more yards beyond the line of scrimmage is probably up for grabs.

I am more impressed with 5 yard completions than I am with 50 yard incompletions or worse interceptions.

Am a fan of ainge, and must admit it took me a couple of games to warm up to clausen completely. But hands down he is a leader. Thus the captain role. The Ainge mistakes were made when he pressed it. He did not make any good throws on the rollout or the run. That was when the int and the overthrows were comitted when he was not set. When he takes his time and sets his feet, i have the utmost confidence in him. But on the rollout he scares me to death!!

I dont see how you guys can say ricks arm is not strong i saw him in pratice this year throw 60 yard i mean come on he looked 110%.Better than Ainge today.Ainge looked like he should have last year a freshman.Rick is smart has a great arm and can avoid the sack what more in a quaterback do we need??Besides how many times do we throw is 90 yards downfield!

Clausen threw much harder than Ainge today.

Hey Milo, better get that TV fixed. Between the crowd issue and you still backing Ainge, I'm begining to worry about you.

HEHE I'm kidding.

I think we're looking for our offense to be "QB explosive" like it was with Peyton. Maybe we just need to be "playmaker explosive" and that's what a Clausen adds to the mix. Yes, Ainge may make some great throws but some were just poor. Let Rick get the balls in our playmakers hands and let them do the work. Of course our playmakers need to learn to catch first. :disappointed:

Rick was the best today, I'll give him that. However, it's slow torture when we drive down the field with Rick and the short passes and then don't score. If I'm going to have to watch a horizontal passing game, I at least want 3 points out of it.... :p

But again, Rick looked good today and if he can get it done against UF then I have no problem with it. I just wanna win..... :dance2:

I am just wondering since when did our O become we have to throw the ball 50 yards down field? We are a run first team and always will be!!

which makes me wonder why riggs didn't get more carries?

Like I said in another post. Coach made a blunder in my opinion by not staying with the guy he started. that changed the whole attitude on the Offense. It was a mistake. Name a qb and let him play. EA played almost faultless untill he was pulled. He came back and tried to play like Rick. He is not Rick and should not try to play like him. But that is what happens when you pull a kid who is playing well and put in another. These are young men who react to how their coaches make decisions. I think EA is trying to play dink and dunk and he is not that kind of QB. We don't have to go 50 yds down field but EA has a zip on the ball in the 20 yrd routs that Rick does not. EA should have been different but was not. I put that on the Coaches. Handleing the Psyche of a QB is part of their job.
