IF We Land These Recruits Can We Win The SEC East?

Oliver is an unknown prospect, havent seen him on the field. He will be able to go through spring practie & summer workouts. He has already been practicing with the team for 2 months. Should add some solid depth next season, I'd expect him to see more reps in 2012

On Askew, I just dont expect him to do much at Tennessee. Granted he has had 2 different D coordinators. Rumor is he just cant learn the playbook. If we land Dawson & another top prospect it looks like he might get buried on the depth chart.

A couple of thoughts...

They say year two after an acl is when RBs get back their full ability. Maybe T. Williams can flash next spring and become the big back Dooley covets.

I think it's gonna be hard to keep Crump off the field next year.

Does D. Sapp become the S/LB rover for our defense? - great potential imo.

Can't wait to see Randolph. 3 star on paper, 5 star in our hearts...

Rosterbating is always fun isn't it? :)

agree totally on Randolph. could very possibly be our starter opposite Janzen at safety next year

Thanks. One of the hardest part of recruiting is falling in love with these players like Askew during recruiting only to have them drift away after a few years. Note also Milton and Meline not on your list. Looks like there may not be a position for them to excel just yet as WR and DB seem stacked.

Also, you didn't include poor Rod Wilks. Is he ever going to be the next Rod Woodson/Jerry Rice/Deion Sanders/Dick Butkus clone that we all hope for.

Matt Milton had trouble running great routes & just being a solid reciever, he will start seeing the field more next season. Alot of people believe he might add weight & move to TE, IMO it wont happen.

Meline was moved to DB in fall practice because we had no depth at all. He was redshirted this year, I'd expect him to move back to WR after the season. IMO he could be a surprise, kid has a ridiculious wing span. He was suppose to posses some good speed also.

Dont ever expect anything out of Wilks.

On one hand, that's depending on an awful lot of freshmen as depth at key positions.

On the other, we were tied in the 4th qtr against SC, and if we'd won that game we'd have tied for 1st in the SEC east.

I expect the Vols to be better next year, and think (hope?) something like 8-4 and a better bowl game is more realistic than outright winning the SEC East. But stranger things have happened. I can't help but think Florida and Georgia are going to be significantly better.

I just don't think Young will do much as a freshman. I think right now he's not fast enough nor big enough but hopefully that can change. Arnett will be pretty good. What about Marques Dixon?

I think next season we could make a run at the east for sure. We have enough added depth in the trenches on the OL and DL to make a difference. We need those guys like M. Jackson, M. Hughes, C. Miller, J. Smith, B. Martin, and new guys like Couch to stay healthy, but problem is that it never happens. I think that could be key. We will still be young, but good. I expect our offense to be even more potent.

SC loses some good players like Jeffrey, etc. but still have lattimore, may even pick up Clowney. I can't expect UGA to do too much. We all know what we can expect from them. Inconsistency. UF will be somewhat rebuilding implementing an entirely new playbook. So I think we have a chance.

I do not see us getting Bellamy. Wright maybe. Rome maybe. But I see us competing without those big names.

The key next year to winning the East will be beating Florida at The Swamp. I think it's very possible because Dooley has addressed problems with our team with some JUCO players. The experience a JUCO will have coming in will be a great benefit to our team.

We're bringing in Couch at DT, and I'd like for us to bring in both of the JUCO guys were looking at in the defensive backfield. I except our secondary to look good next year even if we only land one of the guys with Jackson and Swag being juniors and Eric Gordon getting some confidence at the end of this year.

That is nowhere even close to what the projected depth chart would be at CB or D-Line. At WR I'd expect it to look like:
J. Hunter, Z. Rogers, M. Milton
D. Rogers, D. Arnett, D. Williams

And Bellamy is not coming.

Couch, Arnett and Lanier must play well from day one to have a chance. If that happens we will win the East if 2 of the following 3 happen...

1. Stay healthy
2. O-line gets solidified in spring
3. We beat Florida

DE: Mackey, Bohannon, J. Williams
DT: Hughes, Walls, Couch, Jeffrey, Saulsberry (RS)
DT: Couch, M Jackson, Ayers, Clark, Carson (RS)
DE: Smith, Miller, Martin

How do you not think Malik Jackson will be starting at either DE or DT next year? Just wondering. IMO, he will starting for sure on the D-Line.

volwarrior & ut23vols I'm guessing you missed the note at the bottom of my post that said this isnt what I think the depth chart will look like its just an indication at the depth we would have.

When will people stop thinking that a recruiting class pays off in the now?? They dont. Sure you may get a player here or there that will contribute, but classes dont win championships until years 2, 3, and 4. I know I have said it on this site before and been ripped to shreads, but several big ten teams are the model to follow. Wisconsin in particular. They put a premium on developing their players, not putting them on the field right away. They make sure the players now the system and are physically ready to compete. When you couple that with talented players you get a championship caliber team. Its all fine and dandy to be excited about the kids coming in, but to look for them to make a big difference next year is setting yourself up for failure. Its more realistic to ask if the current freshmen and redshirts will make the team a contender next year. Personally, I'm only looking for 2-3 true freshmen to contribute next year and most of the jucos.

In a good situation this is the case but we arent in a good situation because of the 2008 class and what has become of the 2009 class, we do need people to contribute now and thats why people are thinking that way. I do agree that what you're saying is true but not in our current situation.

Unfortunately it has to be the case. We can put all the freshmen we want on the field, but people need to realize that if we do that its not going to be pretty. No matter how talented these kids are, the vast majority are not ready to produce at a championship level. You will get a WR, DB, RB, and the occasional LB that can step in, but championships are won in the trenches. Putting freshmen in those spots will get you beat (this year being the example). I really hope we do get some of these kids, but even if they play early we will never be in the top two in the east with freshmen playing key roles. So I do understand that our depth will require these young players to see the field. With that said, I think that we are another year away from competing for the east title. I see progress from this season, but not enough to beat bama, SC, or florida.

Regardless, I'm still gonna be rooting like hell for the team to beat all comers and run the table.:dance2:
