IF we get past Mercer. (Not taking them lightly at all) Who do we match up against more favorably MICH or TX?

Michigan is 8000 times the team that Texas is...I'd rather play Texas, but that won't be happening.

Texas and UT just need to be playing each other more often in general. In all sports. We could have a great (and very marketable) rivalry with them

Michigan will embarrass us. Especially with a long break to prepare. Beilein vs Martin? LOL.

Shut down Stauskas, shut down Michigan. That is the scouting report. We match up great in that respect. Also, Michigan is one of the worst rebounding teams in the NCAA, which would be a big advantage for U.T. The Vols don't want to do what Texas is doing, and run with Michigan, letting Michigan's athletes get into the open court. They are good, but they have a big weakness in the post (where McGary was supposed to be) after a marginal Jordan Morgan, they have nothing.

I agree. Our defense really excells against teams that rely on one scorer thanks to J Rich. (See Denson, Brown, Marble...) Have Rich shut Stauskas down, beat them up inside. As for your second point, Tennessee has done a fantastic job keeping the pace down against both teams so far in the tourney, both of which love to turn games into track meets. This Michigan matchup excites me.

Same here. I mentioned it in another thread, I actually think in regards to style of play we match up well against Michigan, granted they are the better team.

Michigan would be an interesting storyline. Cuonzo against the son of a former teammate.

Looks like it's going to be Michigan. I just hope we get by Mercer. We can and should as long as we play Tennessee basketball like we've been playing! GO VOLS!

Had not thought of that angle. Good catch. My dad and I actually went to TBA to watch the Big Dog take on Grant Hill's Duke team in the Regional Finals in 1994. Great game. I was 14 years old and getting my first taste of live, "big-time" college basketball.

Sweet 16 for this team "should" shut the anti Martin crowd up, but it wont.
If we get to the final four they would still be claiming with BP we would have won it all.
You cant please everyone, so you might as well please yourself.......

Wow. I was there as well and also 14 years old. We live in Memphis, and I have an older brother who was graduating from UT that year. It must have been spring break. The two things I remember are Big Dog having an unbelievable scoring half against Kansas and finishing with 44 points, and Grant Hill dunking on Jim McIlvaine. Great experience. Small world.
