Wow. I was there as well and also 14 years old. We live in Memphis, and I have an older brother who was graduating from UT that year. It must have been spring break. The two things I remember are Big Dog having an unbelievable scoring half against Kansas and finishing with 44 points, and Grant Hill dunking on Jim McIlvaine. Great experience. Small world.
Wow...weird. I saw you said you knew some folks near Ashland, KY (where I currently live) too. Are we related...lol. I do have a decent extended family contingent in Memphis (Germantown to be specific).
Interesting. I grew up in Germantown since 1984. Went to UT and came back here to start a family. There is a decent chance I might know some family members. I went to Houston High but know many from both schools.
The family friend who has the connection to Ashland had a maiden name of Ross. Her parents evidently owned quite a bit of land in the Ashland area- assume in a more rural area. Her parents have passed, and I am fairly sure the land was sold.
If it ain't Purdue, it could be some other needy program. Cuonzo's really raising his profile with this tourney run. I'm just saying that he may get an offer or three. Whether he's interested or not is up to him.
Shut down Stauskas, shut down Michigan. That is the scouting report. We match up great in that respect. Also, Michigan is one of the worst rebounding teams in the NCAA, which would be a big advantage for U.T. The Vols don't want to do what Texas is doing, and run with Michigan, letting Michigan's athletes get into the open court. They are good, but they have a big weakness in the post (where McGary was supposed to be) after a marginal Jordan Morgan, they have nothing.
My Memphis relatives all have a last name of Keeton.
The Ashland connection is interesting in that you say they owned a lot of land, because there is a local real estate company named Ross Realty. Might be the same people. Almost definitely related I'd say in a small area like this.
Can't think of any Keeton's right now. Anyone around our age?
I will have ask about the real estate company. She may still have a sibling in the area.
Sara Keeton (can't remember her married name now, but Keeton was her maiden name. She is probably a year or two younger than us. She lives in St. Louis now.
Don Keeton is her younger brother (probably 4 years younger than us). He joined the Army, but is back in Memphis again. He is a photographer.
There is one more younger sibling, but she is too young for you to know probably. Their father is my mom's first cousin. His name is Allen Keeton, and he is a realtor there in Germantown.
