If Wilcox decides to leave and we hire Steele

It's not that much of a stretch. All signs point to Wilcox heading to Texas and Steele would surely be a legitimate candidate to replace him.

Hey Fingers. Just out of curiosity, how did you become a "senior member" whilel only being a member for 2 months?

Gossip on a message board? Who the hell would have though? If you're waiting for everything to be official a message board might not be the best place for you. Topic Nazis can GTFO.

Unfounded gossip? It's not like the Wilcox reports originated here. And I think it's safe to call it more than gossip at this point.

Wilcox said he has had no discussions about other jobs. Yeah I know, so did X, and X and X. Right now though, its the most concrete info out there. Unfounded, YES.

Of course it does. But 750 people making things up, or treating others conjecture as fact, is a waste of time.

I don't enjoy people treating conjecture as fact, but I enjoy reading the speculation of potential candidates and how it might impact recruiting.

Whenever Tennessee hires a new assistant coach, I always like to research the recruiting relationships that coach has. It's a disease. :)

No clue.

Are you saying that because Wilcox said he hasn't been offered the job, that all this is just baseless speculation?

All Wilcox said was that he had not been formally offered the Texas job. Of course, he won't be "formally" offered until he has agreed to terms.

On the other hand, Wilcox did not say he was staying at Tennessee. He did not say he has no interest in the Texas job.

Is he an option for Texas, sure.
Its a done deal, baseless speculation.
Steele to UT after Wilcox leaves, baseless speculation.

If Clemson gets killed... why would UT want their DC?

good question Sir...I hope that JW stays at UT and we get a little stability in our coaching staff, something that we have not had in 3 or 4 years...GBO!:rock:

If he's an option for Texas then it isn't baseless speculation.

I blame the dang reporters for not putting Wilcox on the spot. It is as simple as, "Justin, will you be at Tennessee next year?" it's as simple as that. They let him tippy toe around the issue. Poor job in my opinion.

It wasn't from a lack of effort.

Every DC in the country is an option at this point, and probably a few more. We have been hurt so bad lately that everyone wants to go ahead and figure the worst case scenerio. JMO

IMO, the only way he doesn't leave is if he can't reach an agreement (contract wise) with Texas. He is as good as gone, and if Steele to the Vols happens, then
wilcocks can't get out of here soon enough.

I understand what you are saying, but that statement really isn't accurate. There are a handful of guys that are candidates, but there is too much smoke around Wilcox for him not to be in the thick of this. Not to mention, he could have put an end to our speculation with a more definitive statement like "I'm not interested in the Texas job and I will be at Tennessee next season".

I think another reason he stays is because, we are freakin Tennessee! He will also be living in the shadow of the magical Muschimp, always being compared to him. Now he has the excuse of having little talent, and little experience. There, not so much.

Wonder who keeps fanning the flames?

I think it should be a rule that all coaches answer questions about future employment the same, " No comment". Then people would be saying, did you notice how he said "no comment", he must be leaving. It will never stop.

Do you think his statement was definitive and that's the end of it? Honestly, I think you are in the minority.

Yes I think it was definitive, but no I dont think its the end of it. I simply think its about 3 to 1 that he stays.

You can't tell me that Texas, one of the top 3 coaching positions in the US, doesn't have more and better options then Wilcox? What has he proved? We all know Wilcox has been contacted. Anything further is speculation.
