If you hire Charlie Strong ....

Why? Strong was in a much more fertile recruiting state with a huge budget and couldnt out recruit Butch.

Texas is not where his connections are. Can you imagine the instant fervor surrounding your program if he came in and started bringing in the likes of a Dalvin Cook? Some speed at WR you haven't had, basically ever ?

Don't make the same mistake we made. If he's an option, consider it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, my memory on this isn't great but weren't many of Charlie Strong's Florida connections (particularly south Florida) tied to Clint Hurtt who received a show cause penalty from the NCAA committee on infractions stemming from the Nevin Shapiro scandal at Miami? I know that Hurtt had a lot to do with the recruitment of Teddy Bridgewater to Louisville.

Charlie Strong would have some of the best defensive players in the country year in and year out. We need a equally effective offensive coordinator

Willie Gault, Peerless Price, Tim McGee, Marcus Nash, Robert Meachem, Donte Stallworth, and Carl Pickens all KNOW you're an idiot. Wow, your absolute dumbest post ever, and that's saying something. Even freshman Tyler Byrd (out of Naples) has elite speed.

Love Charlie, but he really showed some flaws in the HC position at Texas. I follow them almost as closely as Tennessee, and it looked a lot like Butch Jones. Great person, great man, rebuilt the roster with high character players, but looked in over his head on game day. Special teams gaffes of all kinds, declining penalties when he should have accepted them, running the 18-Wheeler package in terrible situations. Also made some bad coaching hires, favoring longtime friends, that cost him. Doesn't spout any of the ridiculous, insult-your-intelligence sloganeering that Butch does, he shoots you straight, but was really disappointing as a head coach.

Remember after that week 1 win over Notre Dame where almost the entire country was captivated by that game? Was the most entertaining game that weekend. Two storied programs having a duel to the end. Both teams back in national spotlight. Texas was back!

But in hindsight, wow it was no different than watching Toledo vs Ohio as far as national title contenders go.

Yep, Texas ended the season about as far away from that game emotionally as Tennessee did from the Florida game. Both seem like they happened 5 years ago.

FWIW, Charlie did leave the Longhorns with a lot more talent than he inherited. He may not have been close to Florida, but recruiting was never his problem. Could be a real Ron Zook situation that Tom Herman is walking into. Whether he is anything close to Urban Meyer remains to be seen.

I looked each of them up, and you're right as to at least a few of these. Byrd I'm not so sure about, but admittedly know very little about him.

Now, you make sure to have a nice day.

It's hurting me to say this but, He would be head and shoulders better than Butch !

by texas, which puts a bit of a crimp in your theory. Fact is, Strong is not going to get another top head job now. He'll have to go the coordinator route again, or maybe he gets a head offer from a lower-tier school. But he's not going to get a big job.

two months ago VN was so happy Strong passed on us. and now for some reason after Strong gets fired he is suddenly a great hire? give me a break.

not saying Butch is anything to brag about, just pointing out there is no argument for Strong over Butch.

IMO, this year was an aberration, and the Defense and Shoop will be fine next year. Strong not needed here. Rumors are Ole Miss DC job is his for the taking. If he wants HBC, look for him to head for Nevada or somewhere.
