Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country—launching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

The “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign—originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and funded, in part, by $13 million from DHS’ Transit Security Grant Program—is a simple and effective program to engage the public and key frontline employees to identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to the proper transportation and law enforcement authorities.

More than 230 Walmart stores nationwide launched the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign today, with a total of 588 Walmart stores in 27 states joining in the coming weeks. A short video message, available here, will play at select checkout locations to remind shoppers to contact local law enforcement to report suspicious activity.
I'm actually at a loss for words on this one. I do know Wal-Mart will get none of my business are neither will any other place showing this

I guess no one sees gov't placing their video screens and messages in businesses as a bad thing and no one has a problem with paying for this. Interesting

ok then, sorry

Part of your problem may be that you didn't post anything other than the quote in your original post. I had no idea who was paying for it. I figured it was Wal Mart, trying to look like a good citizen, etc.

I believe we were using the quote, which specified that Wal-Mart was launching the campaign not the gov't. I don't mind if Wal-Mart does it.

yep you're right that was my fault for not finishing my post (dang people want work done) that led to the confusion. Apologize for that but you should have known what I was thinking :loco:

edited the OP with more of the article. Sorry folks :hi:

As far as I can tell (I may still be missing something here) this is little more than an add campaign. I don't, for instance, see any mention of government surveillance.

While it can certainly be called into question if now is exactly the time to drop a bunch of coin on a citizen BOLO campaign and it arguably might be something that pushes paranoia up in some I don't think I'm seeing any overt Big Brother action going on. (at least with what I currently know on the matter)

So am I suppose to report every suspicious person I see AT A WALMART?

Finally, Obama can create those 7 million government jobs he has been looking to do. I see paperwork galore a coming.

Side note, Sam's Club is for people who want to shop at Walmart but don't want to mix with the Walmart crowd.

Costco's is for people who want to shop at Sam's Club but don't want to mix with the Sam's club crowd.

I've got a move coming up. I'm a bit miffed that there isn't a Costco in the area, just a Sam's Club. What kind of wilderness am I moving to?

You're either

A) in a newely developed area that has not gotten a Costco's yet

B) in an area too far out that is more country than suburbs

C) in an area too far in that is more inner city than suburbs

D) Canada

Costco's has great deals on booze I must say.

At what point am I profiling when looking for the "suspicious"?

Sounds kinda open ended, considering some of our new state immigration laws.

It's B, I think. Not enough people in the town for two wholesale outfits, IMO. I'm sure I'll be fine with Sam's Club...I just have to change my membership and lose the service that came with my wife's car's tires.
