‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

Every year you have recruits getting offered by their dream school but they take visits and discover that another school is a better fit for them. I think Tate probably liked being on campus at UT more than OSU and had established more relationships with players and recruits at UT. OSU sold him on it being a big risk to go to UT since it was only the second year for Heupel's staff and the WR coach was new and unproven. Now that we're five games into the season, that argument is getting harder to make. He knows he can be successful at OSU and now he's seeing that he can be successful on the field at UT as well. Hopefully he decides UT is the better fit and makes the flip.
The words you say, I like them much.

If he’s not in Knoxville, that escalated quickly………can’t wait to find out the quick change of “heart.”

And then he would have endless suitors
He would, but it's a hit to the ego, and he's called tOSU his dream school, so he obviously wants the option to go there. And it's a two-way street. While Tate would have endless suitors, tOSU would have plenty of options wanting to attend WRU, as well. They'd have little trouble replacing him, and already have 2 equally, perhaps more so, well-regarded WR prospects in this class, alone. Seems like a case where Tate wants Ohio State more than Ohio State needs Tate.

This would make sense

Simply put, we never had a real chance if OSU was able to scare him out of coming here. With that in mind, not a big loss. Him coming to campus would have been a waste of time if he wasn’t truly interested.
Yep. It's time for our fans to accept the fact that he isn't coming here short of Hartline leaving tOSU. We likely only continue to recruit him to maintain relationships in case of future opportunities via the portal.

Exactly. We have a solid crop of WR commits anyway. It is slightly surprising that with the numbers we continue to put up we haven’t landed a true blue-chip HS WR, but that isn’t a matter of if it’s a matter of when at this point. I know our fans want one, I do too. We’ll land one soon. Hopefully the 2024 class.

What do you consider blue chip? Bc that’s usually 4* and up. Leacock and Seldon this class, Kaleb Webb last class.

Jeremiah Smith from Chaminade Florida is the guy I want most for 2024.

6'4 200 4.3 speed, 40 inch vertical

Honestly, with Leacock committed I could care less about Tate. I know Tate is a 5 star & Leacock is 4, but those are just ratings by recruiting services (which we all know are hit & miss); I feel that Leacock has potential to be a much better player longterm…
No knock to Tate, but Leacock is a stud. He’s faster too.

For the record, Tate is a 5* on only one service - Rivals. He’s a 4* composite

Yeah, I mean like I said earlier, I’m not at all upset with the WR commits we have. We could honestly have a bunch of 3 stars and I’m sure Heupel would make them superstars. WR is the one position I’ll never be concerned about.

Would be great to have a couple of these guys in the same class with Nico.
