what the eff...

In an interview with PJ Media today, Willoughby said: “I went to this rally on Friday. I stood my ground. I was poked, prodded, cursed at, every nasty word that could be thrown my way was thrown my way. I stood in the same spot for the entire time. As I was walking, I felt this arm grab me and I felt this fist and I turned around and it was a cop! He told me ‘You’re gonna get your ass kicked.’ All the while I was asking the police officer if he was going to uphold his oath to protect and defend the Constitution? He never answered me.”

“The whole time I’m asking ‘What did I do wrong?’ No answer. They handcuffed me. They took me into a car. I asked ‘Am I being arrested?’ and they said ‘No, you’re not being arrested.’ But they handcuffed me, and put me in a dark jail cell, all the while not arresting me.” You can hear much of the exchange in the video. Willoughby says police took personal property from him during the encounter.

According to the police citation, which Willoughby read to me over the phone, Willoughby (seen at left at a Tea Party rally) is accused of the following: “During a political rally, subject raised a protest sign above his head in a manner that created danger to the public. Subject’s actions caused a disturbance during a political rally.” The citation carries a $185 fine and has a July court date. Mr. Willoughby is not in jail, but says that he will fight the citation on the grounds that he did absolutely nothing wrong and was exercising his free speech rights.

Of all people to generalize I figured you to be near the bottom.

I have little love for an industry that chooses to infringe upon other persons simply because those persons are in violation of an arbitrary writ.

Certainly, there are some LEOs who are good persons; that said, I still have no respect for their profession (LE).

Arbitrary writs is one thing...but do you not respect them for attempting to catch a killer or a rapist or perpetrators of any of a list of extremely serious and violent crimes. It's a damn shame when crap like this happens because it taints what a lot of good, honest LEOs do every day. JMO.

If all that LE was focused on was catching murderers, rapists, assailants, and thieves ex post, then I would respect the hell out of the institution. Unfortunately, LE is mainly concerned with preventative policing, which I associate wholly with a lack of liberty.

I do understand where you are coming from. It's a very hard line to walk between being reactive and proactive since the job requires both and yet a sort of restraint on both as well. I know I can't change your mind because we have discussed this before so I'll leave it be. I just wish there weren't those bad officers out there ruining it for the vast majority of good ones and giving the entire profession a bad name.

Trut, if you are able, I would love your thoughts on a youtube group called copblockers.

If you are game, we can start a leo thread.

what allows the police to handcuff anyone who happens to be in an area? They also have no cause to request a search and it's sad to see everyone consented to it anyway

and I answered- no reason to detain/handcuff and no reason to request a search.

they detained everyone which means they had absolutely no clue what they were looking for so everyone became a suspect. Pretty lazy IMO

what gave the officers the right to detain everyone when they didn't even know who they were looking for?

what cause did they have to request a search of every vehicle in the area when they didn't even know who they were looking for?

Investigative detention

 if that's all it takes then we're all screwed. No idea who they're looking for so everyone is assumed a criminal

The article said the two weapons

found after searching 18 other cars without cause

Bank robbery you are looking for weapons, cash, die packs, die soaked clothing, die soaked skin

you should probably also be working with a basic idea of the person holding those items
