So, I thought i would start a thread on good ole volnation. Here's my thinking. If CBJ does not succeed (I'm not saying he will or he won't), can i start a movement amongst my vol brethren to make our next head coach be the best defensive mind we can possibly hire? I don't care if he is in the NFL or in college. I want a top notch defense back on the hill! If the Jets were to fire Rex Ryan, I would throw the UT bank account at him! I want a Pete Carroll or Nick Saban type coach that will bring us a defense that will keep us in games! You guys remember when Coach Chavis put defenses on the field that kept us in games and gave us a chance to win? Our O was pitiful sometimes but we were in a lot of games come the 4th quarter! Heck, before my time, Gen. Neyland was a defensive genius! Defense built this great football program, and I for one want it BACK!

It wouldn't take a miracle to find a really good defensive minded coach. If bama can do it so can we.

We tried to get Charlie Strong but he wouldn't leave. I'm not saying I don't like Butch because I'm a huge fan and think we got a steal of a coach, but Strong is the type of coach you are talking about. The guy beats way better teams with less talent due to defense. It doesn't hurt his QB is a stud also.

Threads like this makes me mad. If our players were this committed to CBJ we might as well forfeit the season! Why go there? If you can't watch the Vols rebuild, get a hobby and check back later!

This thread is not about Butch Jones. I fully support him and want him to succeed. But, there is no guarantee that he is gonna take us back to the top. I'm simply saying if he doesnt, then i want a great defensive minded coach. I have not, and am not, bashing CBJ in any way.

People are just tired of excuses. CBJ is a no BS guy. I love the fact that I haven't heard him say, It's a process and it takes time." over and over again like Dooley did. He's always saying we have no depth but losing is unacceptable. The time is now. CBJ knows this, and he's pretty much came out and said look our players don't know how to win. Everyone talks about speed, power, etc, but our biggest issue is our players mentality aren't winners and CBJ knows it. Winning is a state of mind, and until our players perceive themselves as winners and go out every time the pads are on and give 110% we won't every win big games.

I agree. But, there are more great defensive minds out there. Many good NFL defensive coordinators would take a hard look at the UT job in my opinion.

Would he take the job or turn us down like Muschamp? That man surley has learned a thing or two about defense being under Saban this long. Would be a very nice hire in the future if CBJ doesn't make it.

Don't call me surley

Peyton is going to retire within the next few years. He's the coach I want next, since we are bored and kicking the can.

Lol I've joked around with my friends with this. Saying when PM retires he'll be our next ball coach. That's funny you brought it up.

I could never disagree with hiring Peyton. He is such a student of the game and so determined to win that he just might make a good coach. It would be a very risky hire though for me. He has no pedigree on the defensive side of the ball.
