2009 was a great squad..1999 was great as well
For one season, Dalton Knecht could be called the 2nd best player of all time for a UT team. In my mind the second best of all time is Ellis. Knecht's success here should be a guide for similar style players moving up the ranks

So proud of this group of men. They fought every single game and gave us an Elite 8. Fought as hard as they could against Purdue but there were other narratives that needed to be fulfilled. I am so proud to have been able to watch this team.
Goodbye to Santi, James, DK. Thanks for everything.

I agree. Frankly I only saw a few games that led me to think we were an elite 8 team this year. We weren’t very consistent. That’s not on Barnes. I think for this group to make it to the Elite 8 and actually be among the 4 best teams in the nation IMO says a lot about Barnes’ coaching and the grit this team won with throughout the year. If we were more consistent on offense, we win the NC.

It really did come down to just a few missed shots. Turning point in the game had to be when we tied it up at 58. Then we forced an Edey miss, but Knecht missed the jumper. We get the ball back on the jump ball and Knecht misses a 3.

Edey goes to the line after and makes 1 of 2. Then we come down and James misses a mid range jumper.

3 chances to take the lead and we just couldn’t do it.
Charles Barkley was right about one thing, if the vols ended up losing the game they could probably look back at the way Purdue finished out the first half the way they did. Vols could have easily had a double digit lead going into the half.

JJJ is a true vfl and a great representative for the university. His words at the post-game presser were very emotional and clearly show how much he loves Coach Barnes, his teammates, and Tennessee. I appreciate what he, Santi, and DK did for the program.
