I really can't understand why they aren't performing better. With all our challenges at the QB position, it sure would be nice to rely on that unit to run the ball effectively.

They are all veteran players and just don't seem to give us a solid crutch to rely on when we really need it.

The o-line is being put in the worst possible situation to succeed. You have a slow QB in the read option that is no threat to run and the plays are so slow to develop what other possible outcome is there.

Agree...they were suppose to be our strength......Start rotating for next year.............

In my opinion, our offensive line seems to lack an aggressive and nasty attitude that you need to have to excel at run blocking, but that is just me.

Alot of people give them credit for being starters for so long, but all it means is that they've had a long time to be underwhelming.

If you think about it this O line's strength has been pass protection....not bull dozing to open up running lanes. I mean when we had Bray we were a 70 percent passing team because that was our strength. Now they're being asked to hang their hat on the run game which envolves a whole different mentality and technique. We simply don't have an offensive identity right now because we don't have a QB that can "sling it" or enough of a run game to "bring it"!

IMO problems are: we let the best O-line coach walk last year to Arky and didn't retain Pitttman. ( look at Arky so far this year)
Our left guard is a joke, he misses blocks
Too many coaching changes at this and other positions
O-line play is a lot of attitude and pride, you have got to want to be nasty and destroy the guy in front of you, Tiny,Zach have it, Stone and James I'm not sure.
Too many coaching changes and offensive playing styles. We have a pro style built team and this read option is not fitting it. I don't mind playing at the fast pace, but I would rather see a pro style offense with these players. An NFL guy named Peyton does this style pretty well!

The OL is hurt when you have zero passing threat other than a 2 yard route.. Load the Box

True but I saw them get pushed back all day on run blocks one on one. They have been one of the biggest let downs of the season. I had no expectations of anyone else on offense.

This guy gets it.

They are being asked to be a spread option team after three years of running more of a spread passing offense predicated on protecting the QB and running some I formation that Chaney picked up in the NFL and pistol running schemes.

This offense is a real mess right now and the O line, despite having NFL level talent, isn't immune to the struggles of the philosophical change.

This.

A lot of people look at the number of starts these guys have and instead of saying "they're one of the most experienced lines in the country" conclude that "they're one of the best lines in the country." Problem is - this group has been terrible run blocking for years and, as a unit, hasn't developed much since they were freshmen. In their defense, hard to really develop with 3 OL coaches in 4 years.

But development issues aside, I'm not convinced there's as much NFL-level natural talent on that line as everyone claims.

I would agree with this. You have to be "maulers" on the OL to be great at run blocking. These guys, from the minute they stepped on campus, were in a finesse pass happy offense.

So does that guy named Drew in New Orleans.

Nice post.

we have a good o-line for passing but for run blocking there's very little push. I would like to see some of the younger player next week get some playing time.

Too many excuses for the O-line....I agree with this. They have been touted by everyone, but beyond blocking for pass rush they haven't been consistent on running plays. Of course if we had a tougher back that could break a tackle now and then they'd look a lot better.

A lot of good points being made... they have all primarily been asked to pass block their entire careers so perhaps it's just that simple. That's just what they do best and it's just too late to get them to be effective run blockers. Hopefully our young lineman and those coming will be a much better fit for our offense.

Easley just blew Tiny up with his Bull Rush on the Peterman sack/fumble.. That's 1 vs 1 forget scheme.. I am gonna run over you. ...J James let a LB jump down and cover him on a last second stunt, he chip blocks inside with guard Never blocks the man covering him and run play was coming off his hip. LB almost took the hand off in the backfield see the Neal fumble 1Q... Lot of hype little production !!

I think the OL has looked good when we run between the tackles. But they are hurt by the goofy read option that takes all day to develop and the seemingly ridiculous desire by the coaches to attack the edges.

Yeah, this new offense is hurting them a bit, but they do amazing on pass protection. Easley is one of the best DTs in college football, it wasn't an easy matchup. I'm impressed with Fulton though so far this year, I think he's really doing well.

For two years, we were one of the worst rushing teams in the country. I think our running game improved last year partly due to the fact that teams had to respect our passing game with Hunter, Patterson and Bray. And the tight end whose name escapes me. I will give them their due for pass blocking last year. Nobody is gonna fear our passing game this year and I expect the box to stay loaded to stop the run. We need playmakers in a bad kind of way. Watching their quarterback scramble and make plays with his feet sure made me miss the dual threat qb. Unfortunately I don't think we have one of those in the 4 qb's we have. I keep hearing Dobbs can, but I didn't see much running in his highlights.

They play the way they have always played, good standing there ground pass blocking, but not so good on run blocking because of lack of explosion off the line!IMHO.
