I'm puzzled with our O-Line

I really can't understand why they aren't performing better. With all our challenges at the QB position, it sure would be nice to rely on that unit to run the ball effectively.

They are all veteran players and just don't seem to give us a solid crutch to rely on when we really need it.

I agree. I thought these guys on the O-Line were supposed to be all world.

did you notice how well they were pass blocking in the 2nd half ?Worley had time to look around,i wished he would do his reads better, instead of zoning in

this line has never been run orientated at all, like others have said, way to many OL coaches during there tenure on the OL,from what i have seen so far this year,i wished they would have kept Pittman

and what the hell is it with the play where the linemen just stay in there stance ? Fla just flat out rushed past them, while they stayed in there stance, that is what the 2nd or 3rd time they have done that this year ? the announcers called it a trick play,i didn't see the point in it all, they just stood there while they were playing sack the QB

I think they we're better as freshman, really.

I really, truly hope this comment is a joke.

In 2010 (when they were frosh), we averaged 109 yards per game running the ball and 3.5 yards per carry
In 2011 we averaged 90 yards per game rushing and 2.9 yards per carry (truly horrible)
In 2012, we averaged a respectable 160 yards per game and an impressive 4.7 yards per carry

This year, we are averaging 200 yards per game and 5 yards per carry. YES THEY ARE BETTER THAN WHEN THEY ARE FRESHMEN!!!

Speaking of this year, today our RBs still averaged over 3 yards per carry against a very good run D. We would have had more than 66 yards had Lane and Raj not been limited to 17 carries total between them. The circumstances of the game with all the turnovers did not allow us to concentrate on the run as much as IMO we should have.

I really don't understand the complaints about the OL....they could be playing better, but between the OL/run game is one of the few, if not the only bright spots on the entire team IMO.

Oline is catching too much hell IMO....QB position is very weak at this point......Wrs are anemic and the RBs are less than stellar. An average QB and a RB like the Vols used to always have would paint a much different picture.

Why because they are not that good? Or is it puzzling that without a decent passing option they are still not very good?

After today I'm not sure we will make a Bowl berth. Still a lot of season left. I hope CBJ plans on recruiting a QB because the stock on the shelf is questionable.

we wont be as bad next yr as some think on the O line. we may not have the "talent" but some of those young O lineman are much nastier and better run blockers. crowder, wiesman come to mind. Jackson would be on the field at alot of other schools. this line has been a bit disappointing outside of Fulton. theyre not mean.

This guy gets it.

Fact is, we miss Pittman bad!! What's up with the line standing like statues when the QB is being murdered behind them? We were good last year and we still got the same guys, but there is something very different this year--what is it? Those guys are missing Pittman.

Does anyone else think the o line just doesnt understand the read option? A bunch of plays we had missed assignments RT did terrible today

The o-line is being put in the worst possible situation to succeed. You have a slow QB in the read option that is no threat to run and the plays are so slow to develop what other possible outcome is there.

It would help if the line actually hit somebody.

The problem seams to be from the interior. I was watching our o-line the whole game, and at tackle we are fine but Stone, Bullard, and Fulton get pushed like girls out there sometimes. Fowler beat all three of those guys to pieces today.

You're trying to put lipstick on a pig.

When it counted against Oregon, we only rushed for around a hundred. And when we needed 2 or 3 or 4 on a 3rd down, we didn't get it. Same thing today. You can claim all you want they're good, doesn't change reality. I said last week the notion they are a dominant oline is a joke, upset quite a few sunshine pumpers. Still think that's where we are. I think scheme has a little to do with it, but these guys flat out aren't blowing people off the line. Definitely way above average on pass protection, but that's just not enough.

Other than Zach Fulton and J. James, this o-line is honestly comprised of a bunch of soft, mentally weak guys. Tiny Richardson has been an absolute embarrassment this year.. my god, he's nowhere close to being ready to play in the NFL. He CONSTANTLY gets flagged for moving to early, and Florida's d-ends absolutely ate his lunch all afternoon. Perhaps, we've incorrectly equated experience to talent with this group. Your o-line needs to be a group of mean, nasty guys that play with a reckless abandon and hit people in the mouth play after play. I just can't get over how bad Tiny has been.. just blows my mind. Okay, rant is over.

Dools told these guys he would get them to the "Pass Happy" NFL. They came, and his coaches trained them !
Stupid to think any different. I personally will never be able to watch this O-line with objectivity after seeing JU'auwn James, and fellow O-line laugh and cut up on the side line, During the 3rd quarter.... We still had a chance and these CLOWNS were joking around !

IMO there are two reasons that our quality of o-line play has dropped.

1. We are running a different offensive scheme, therefor the line is having to adjust just like the rest of the offense.

2. We did let go of a pretty good o-line coach in the coaching overhaul. Mabey Pittman is just that good at getting everything he can out of his players.

If you (not anyone specifically) were the opposing defensive coordinator scheming against Tennessee, what would be your plan?

I would conclude that the passing threat for Tennessee is minimal and the threat of the running backs that Tennessee has of breaking to the outside is minimal.

Therefore I would man up on the receivers on first and second down and let my linebackers concentrate on stopping the run. I also would bring my strong safety up to key on the running back in case he does break it outside.

The weakness in this approach is that if you have a composed quarterback who can quickly hit your slot receiver or the tight end, then you get eaten alive. Well guess what, there is no threat of that. So what we saw yesterday and last week (and against Western Ky) was five offensive linemen trying to block four down linemen and three linebackers.

I refuse to go back and watch the game again, so maybe someone can tell me how many times our quarterback missed a receiver on a quick throw, our receiver dropped it, or the quarterback held on to the ball too long.

In my humble opinion, this is an issue that our skill positions are the weakest they have been in the 40 years I have been watching TN football. In the last four years, we at least had players like Tyler Bray, Patterson, Rivera, Hunter, Denarius Moore, Monterio Hardesty and I am sure there are a few others.

I challenge anyone to point out a single skill player on our team that would start for any SEC school (except Kentucky) at this point.

This is what is "wrong" with our offensive line.
