I'm Sure This is Beating A Dead Horse...

But, once again, we are on a huge run and have come back to take the lead. Our response, put McBee and Pearl into the game. The result: we immediately lose momentum and never really got it back the rest of the game. Why we don't keep the same lineup in the middle of the run is simply mind-boggling.

Yeah, blaming reserves with limited minutes makes sense when you get 3 pts out of BW, squat from Cam, terrible pg play except for a steal and nasty dunk that also gave them points, and 11 total team assists. SP scored more than Cam and BW. That's pitiful.

I think we have to just face the facts, this is not a very good team, average at best. I'm just sayin.
The frustrating part is this is, in my opinion, without question the most talented team top to bottom we've ever had here, yet this is the result.

I haven't understood why expectations were so high this year. When you have no pg and no post play, you can't have a consistent team. Not to mention losing Chism and JP. They were vocal leaders and led with their play. I can't believe how bad I miss Maze and he drove me crazy.

Ga is better at every position except the 2. I guess our 9-11 guys may be better but I don't see how you say this is the most talented team ever, when most teams we play have better players at the 1, 3, 5 and sometimes 4. I'll respect your opinion, but would like to know from what it derived.

Look at the roster. Yeah we've got transfers and walk ons playing too many minutes, but our roster is as talented as any team in the country. That's a fact. The talent may not be getting it done, or even playing (Scout team), but it's there. That is what is frustrating.

The worse this basketball team gets.....the more I think we're going to have a great football season.....ever since the basketball team has gotten better our football team has gotten worse....it is the curse of Pat Summitt....only the Lady Vols are allowed to win basketball championships at U.T.

I don't care about the roster. I'm looking at the skill level on the court. Unless it's a top freshman, most struggle. I haven't seen enough out of golden, hall, mcrae and maymon to judge their talent. This isn't HS ball, aau or rocky top league. I don't know how its a fact, other than the number of stars. There are 3 and 4 star rated players riding the bench all over the country. We need basketball players, not slasher athletes.

You're wrong.

If you are arguing that our 10th player can beat the other team's 10th player at 1 on 1, then you are right. A team with no pg and no post can't be considered one of the most deep and talented teams ever. Sorry, not possible for me to be wrong about that.

How can a school like Vandy coach up the caliber of players they have to be one of the best teams in the sec, easily the state? This team may have the skills but, they just don't seem to play at a high level. Drives me crazy!!

Tatum actually had a 3 at the start of the game, and Williams and Pearl both had two, so Pearl didn't outscore either. I agree with your general point though - Williams, Tatum, and Goins did not play well enough. Williams let himself get dominated in the post offensively but did a good job setting up other players (Harris and Hopson). Tatum took a few too many bad shots at the beginning of the game. He also didn't drive very much, but I think the man defending him was quicker than Tatum is (and screens were hedged to prevent the drive), so I don't really blame Tatum too much for that (...but he still should have tried to drive more often). He had a few assists and no turnovers, so I don't think he really killed us...it was about neutral, maybe slightly positive. Despite that opinion, he needs to be consistently better than his match-up because he's usually more talented than them. Goins almost played well but missed easy plays at a few key junctures (two easy layups and the technical (which was somewhat unjustified)), and those plays in combination killed our momentum.

I don't think you can put the loss merely on those three, however. Harris took bad shots at the beginning as well and got absolutely dominated by Price's post-up game. On offense, he always had a mismatch and could have driven to the rim more, but he occasionally settled for jumpshots or awkward floaters. Looking back, Pearl played a few minutes too many this game because Georgia has tall, athletic big men with post moves (we should have played Fields more because he actually played well this game with his limited minutes and is a defensive force). Hopson was our only player who basically played a flawless game.

What broke the momentum was the technical on Goins for hanging on the rim. Not the substitutions.

I disagree. Putting people on the floor that are completely outmatched at two positions where UGA has excellent players is what cost us momentum.

Gotta give them a breather. I think they were maybe in for less than a minute. I remember thinking the same thing, but then Bruce sent in Tobias and Scotty immediately.

He didn't put them back in immediately enough because I distinctly recall 4 pts given up by S. Pearl in about 5 seconds with him having a pass intercepted on one end and them lobbing it softly over his head for a layup on the other end. If he had left them in for more than 30-45 seconds we would have gone from 1 up to 15 down in very short order in stead of from 1 up to 3 down. You can make a strong case that this short breather swung the game in Georgia's favor.

I know that immediately enough isn't correct.

He should just go with a shorter bench. Teams don't respect these guys shooting ability and just sag so they can't drive the lanes. It's easy to stop Tennessee's offense right now except Hopson.
