We landed some really good kids who bleed orange. We landed some guys to fill needs and some leadership guys. A couple freak athletes and a couple beast DL's.

Considering we only had 15 scholarships to give, this was a pretty good class for us.

i'm applaud you for being optimistic but be a realist and stop denying that this was a really crappy recruiting year.

Yes we should be concerned.

it's called fans are pissed that we finished with a 36th best recruitning class in the nation. If we couldn't develop prime talent before how are we going to delevop mediocre talent now?

i agree with fulmer on how a player develops and handles college. hopefully we got good level headed people who arent going to make us look worse for drug charges and crimes. i'll take a mediocre talent that wants to become better and stays out of trouble over 5 stars and has an attitude and doesnt think he needs coached anyday. im excited to see how the new coaches develop and polish what we have. some were jumpy coming to new coaches etc and is understandable. we will have to take this year and make the best of it. yeah im sick florida and ga got such good picks but when we play tennessee football and beat them maybe they'll wish theyd come on to knoxville.

You have no idea what kind of talent we signed except for a couple of websites that have been proven wrong year after year.

I doubt any of the commitments think this was a crappy year or are concerned.

I heard a few of the guys today and the guy that impressed me the most and gave me a glimmer of hope was Preston Bailey. They guy sounded like somebody that would give his all for Tennessee. In general, most of the guys I heard actually seemed to be charcter guys and guys that bleed orange/grew up Vol fans.

Just like the Clawson hire, I'm willing to give these guys a chance and I hope for the best.

We finished with top 5 recruiting classes before 2005. At this point, a no. 36 class is about as good as a top 5...

Negativity about recruiting this year was expected to be high considering the amount of scholarships that we had to offer and major coaching changes. I don't think there is anything to hang our head about. With so few schollies there is a general feeling among recruits that their chances of starting are low whereas schools like AL who had quite a few to give can promise the world....and with Saban's resume this is probably what was promised with no ability to deliver. I for one can't wait to see what our young innovative coaches do with the talent that we know we have and yet have to uncover. Development of players is what college is all about and we know from past experience our old coaches couldn't do crap with talent but hopefully our new boys will unlock some potential that was overlooked or hidden.............GO VOLS!!!!!!!:peace2:

Well, we got new coaches on the offensive side of the ball. But the players we need to develope are on the defensive side... same old coaches over there.

This class doesn't have the 5 star athletes, but lets be honest. We had 15 scholorships to give, we went after what we needed, and for the most part, filled the holes... not always with our first choice, but with quality guys. Recruiting rankings are overhyped and do not always turn out. I wish i could find the link, but more so than any other star rankings, the players on this years All-SEC teams were 3 stars... Im so happy we got Ej Abrams-Ward. He WILL be a player.

Offensively we struggle year after year and the defense came a long way toward the end of the year so I see no reason to worry about the defense. Chavis usually has a good defense every year but we can't keep them on the field 3/4 of the game and expect them to perform strong. The offense is gonna need some better direction and keeping the defense off of the field longer than 3 plays will go a long way toward better defensive play.:)

That's sort of what I was telling myself when I just read this. There's the other side of the coin.

If... If... Tn HS football produced 20-35 4* and 5* players every year like GA then maybe UT would have that luxury.

But instead Tn produces this many 4-5* players:

2003-5
2004-2
2005-5
2006-3
2007-10
2008-5

Tn produced 3 5* players in that 6 year period. GA produced 2 just this year. Florida produced 5. Even the state of Alabama had 3 5* players this year alone.

CPF has averaged something like a #13 class over the past 8 years including this one... Does anyone here want to wager that the state of Tn has produced the little orange born, orange bred future 5* players to fill those classes?
