lets just be happy that these guys want to come here, and give their all for tennessee.. and that the commits who stayed with UT even after the coaches left. That must say something.

I know that stars might not mean much, but the fact is bamma got 22 players with 4 or 5 stars. We signed three 4*'s. Even if half of their recruits do not work out for whatever reason, they got a heck of a class, and will be kicking our *** in 3-to 4 years. I do not like Saban, but he CAN coach. Hopefully, this recruiting demise is not going to be an annual event....

This year the exisiting talent should be good enough to get 8-9 wins. At least on paper, it will not look like much of a drop off. In 2009 and 2010, the disparity between UTK's 2006-2008 classes and those of UF, UGA and Bama for the same period will really show. Once the losses start piling up, less out of state elite prospects will look at UTK. It becomes cyclical. Then one day you wake up and discover that your are in the same boat as Kentucky and the Mississippi schools.

Bama's OC change crippled their efforts this recruiting year.....had this not occurred I wonder what kind of haul they would have made. Same with the coaching changes at UF and UCLA. And poor Arkansas what are they gonna do for players?

i agree that this wasn't a good recruiting year by any stretch of the imagination but it seems that yal are forgetting three members of the team that don't show up on the recruiting lists in Vince Faison, Demetrice Morley, and Brandon Warren... this is 2 solid players and who knows the third may also pan out.

Faison is 40 years old and hasnt played in 20 years, Warren's not even eligible to play yet and maybe will not be. So quit bringing these guys into the excuses for such a crap year.

A slight exaggeration. Faison is 26 or 27.

Warren will get into Tennessee. Now whether or not he'll get to play in 2008 is yet to be seen.

exaggeration for emphasis, way too many people are using the addition of Warren and Faison to soft peddle this year's poor class.

found this in an archive...

A day after the Volunteers made Fulmer a $2 million a year coach, he showed why he's among the highest paid in his profession.
"Fulmer is a guy who in some regards has flown under the radar a bit, but he's terrific recruiter," Burton said. "He takes a lot of pride in it.
"A lot of coaches look at recruiting as something they have to do. I think he enjoys it."
During Fulmer's 13-year tenure in Knoxville, he and his staff have consistently been among the nation's best at luring blue chippers from all over the country.
The class the Vols signed yesterday included defensive end Raymond Henderson from Wisconsin, linebacker Andrea Mathis from Pennsylvania, defensive back Adam Myers-White from Ohio State and linebacker Rico McCoy from Washington, D.C. All were rated among the best players at their positions nationally.
"You have to do that at Tennessee where you don't have that homegrown talent," Burton said.
And as usual, the Vols did well in the Deep South and Florida, landing cornerback Demetrice Morley from Miami, defensive back Slick Shelley from **** Smith, Ark., and offensive lineman Josh McNeil from Collins, Miss. Tennessee went 10-3 and played in the Southeastern Conference title game last season, playing freshmen quarterbacks Erik Ainge and Brent Schaeffer.
