Impact BattleAtBristol has on recruiting

I agree. It's a nice little perk to mention to recruits, but if you're a student who's going to decide on your entire college experience based on one football game, you're missing the bigger picture in life.

Well if that is the case man then James Franklin is right go to Vanderbilt cause you can play in the SEC and get a top notch education. You can get a TN education and play football anywhere what separates this program is what makes a difference. If you are an athlete you want to play on biggest stage that is apart of being a competitor. Recruiting is people business that requires you to persuade people the more leverage you have the better. This game does that for us and help us gain momentum for the 2015 class.

Another question is would this game maybe influence some of our higher calibur juniors in 2015 (North, Croom, Sutton, Vereen possibly, etc) to possibly come back for their senior years instead of going to the pros if they had the opportunity? I know this is a long way down the road, but I was just curious...

From VA to Bama, NASCAR is still a popular spectator sport. Lately, more Hispanics and Blacks have been fans too (Brad Daugherty) or maybe they have been fans all along and marketing just discovered them. Juan Pablo Montoya, Danica Patrick and Ryan Gifford are broadening NASCAR fan base.

I have always dreamed of going to Bristal, as I think the night race there is incredible. Getting a chance to play there would be incredible, better than Rose Bowl IMO.

you should go,the races are a blast

Interesting thought. If they are a "can't miss" first rounder by all means they need to go. However, it's something to think about. The closer it gets, the more buzz will surround this game. I'm just glad we have 3 years to improve.

I know if I were to be in that situation, I would be absolutely torn. And I concur about having 3 years! I have a feeling we are going to be in very good shape heading into that game!

It is always good to have something that your competitor does not have. That is always an advantage in sales. You never know which factor will be the one to put you over the top when you are competing for a kid's services.

You can tell these kids if they come to Tennessee they will get a chance to do something that even pro players will not have the opportunity to do... play before the largest live crowd in football history. It does not get any more epic in that.

Pat Summitt used to always sell recruits on the fact that they would be playing on the biggest stage in women's basketball at UT, and you could tell how much of a competitor a kid was by how much that thought appealed to them. Shrinking violets don't take you far in sports. Go big or go home.

We built a 200 million dollar practice facility and still got out-recruited by Vanderbilt.

I don't think Butch is that inept, but I think the talent of the recruiters and the performance of the team on the field will have a much bigger impact than anything else.

Get your facts straight before posting please

Well, that was enlightening. How about next time you just tell me what I said that was wrong?

So, after a quick trip to google, it looks like I was way off on the cost of the new practice facility. I honestly don't know where I got the 200 million dollar number, but it looks like it was actually around 45 million. Faulty memory, sorry.

We did get out-recruited by Vanderbilt though. That's still up there in plain english on Rivals's site. So, I didn't mis-remember that, unfortunately.

This is the "Perfect Storm" in recruiting.
We already know Butch "Gets it"
He can and will recruit with the best of the best.
By the time this game comes, we will back to our winning ways.
Then to b part of history!
It's a no brainer!
Vols are back baby!!!!

No, we didn't.

so 3.15 > 3.19? Hmmm

#19 vs. #21. Last I checked, they tabulate the whole class. I mean, no one shouts "we got the highest star average amongst the players we signed!", instead of "we got the #1 class!", do they?

Or, I could use Scout...on there Vanderbilt is #19 and we're, umm, not even in the top 25? Is that right?

Well okay, how about ESPN? Hmmm, Vanderbilt is #22 and we're #29?

Yeah, I'm going to stick with "they out-recruited us."

Players aren't coming here to play VaTech one time. They are coming here to try and win a title. People are blowing the recruiting impact way out of proportion. It's a premiere OOC game not an automatic bid to the playoffs.

I already posted this in another thread but I think our staff should have a tabletop scale model of Bristol Motor Speedway prominently displayed somewhere in the new training facility, along with a model of Neyland sitting inside of it to give these recruits a real visual idea of what it's going to be like to play there! Telling a kid about it is one thing but give them that visual impact and it drives the point home much stronger!

Wrong at every level.

The kids you want to recruit have one thing in mind: who is going to get me into the NFL?
