So let's talk about Immediate impact Freshmen.

Marquez North will undoubtedly be asked to contribute early on, with the big void left by Hunter and crew. Paul Harris also looks to be physically ready to get snaps right away, and we will need him, too.

Woody Quin is a little unheralded, but his size, 6'6"
260, makes him a sure bet to get on the field right away with us being thin at TE.

Jaylen Miller DE had 27 sacks, and with getting to the QB a weak spot for us last year, he will have a chance to get early PT and in a position that can be of a difference for us in '13.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin could certainly help us in the D backfield, as well as Lemond Johnson. Both are super athletic and physically ready to handle the rigors of SEC ball as true freshmen.

And if we need help in the return game, I just have a feeling about Malik Foreman as being a guy who could surprise a lot of people if given a chance. He just seems like such a gamer, and is crazy elusive with the ball in his hands.

Who else do you think will be players in 2013?

.North is a force of nature player and Carr will be a force by the end of the season. I believe Branisel will redshirt this season and be the answer to this question next year

I think this assessment is pretty spot on. Jaylen Miller's tape looked really good to me. I think he will surprise many. I'd look for Car to get in the mix fairly quick as well.

I'm a little iffy about Maybin. I think it depends on the position that the staff see's him in. I would think he could get some looks at Safety but many think he grows into a LB. Lemond Johnson will definitely get his chance and contribute by the end of the year.

In 2010 recruiting class there was a 4* Juco transfer CB named Dave Clark. I can't find him on any roster though since. What the hell happened to him? Says he is on La Tech's team now. WTH???

IIRC i remember seeing the coaches saying that JRM will be a safety

Immediate impact = Austin Peay, WKU, or Oregon.

Perhaps Jason Carr @ SDE. If not, my pre-spring practice guess at SDE 2-deep is Jordan Williams then Jason Carr.

Perhaps Woody Quinn @ TE. If not, my pre-spring practice guess at TE 2-deep is Brendan Downs then Woody Quinn.

What makes for immediate impact? Position of need + tallent + conditioning > returning experience at the position.

I belive Meredith is going to be pretty good if he's healthy, so I'm willing to say he starts over Quinn who IMO is nothing more then an emergency back up TE. I also believe Justin King will play FB/TE as well if he's not moved to LB, which I don't think he will be. As for the original OP post I believe Vereen and Harris will be our two best freshman this year. I think Carr will get a lot of PT and so Will North. JRM will also see the field a lot since we missed on Bell and Randolph is coming off a serious injury. I also expect to see the new staff put Brewer at LB and see how he does in spring practice due to our lack of depth at LB.

Quinn is not unheralded......he had an offer from Stony Brook.

Coaches have been quiet clear since NSD that Maybin will be a safety. If he grows into a linebacker that will be years down the road and have no bearing on this year.

I say Jason Carr and Jaylen Miller. I think Miller will come in this summer at about 270 280 with increased strength and more explosive and if he works hard this summer and focus will be rush demon behind Smith. Carr will be that dude though 280 wears it like its 230 and can move all over the line. Also a sleeper is going to be Corey Vereen I think this guy is going to be another guy who will get to the QB and come up and make tackles.

Who else do you think will be players in 2013?

1) Justin meredith
2)Reeves-maybin -RB? Maybe redshirt if he winds up a db=safety depth, If maybin ends up at olb it could take longer to see the field.btw Bynum looks good coming off injury and could contribute
3) Lemond Johnson may return punts/kicks and could run a speed sweep play,or direct snap
4) North starts from Day 1
5)Miller= may be the sleeper.
6) Paul Harris and North are going to be excellent
7)ryan Jenkins will play early and often
8)Jabo Lee will get carries in the 4th qtr of game 1

1) Justin Meredith has not played football in nearly 2 years. He is going to have to prove that he can stay healthy and regained his preinjury form before I pencil him in anywhere. Plus, if you sign a juco tightend with 2 years to play it is with the expectation for him to play this year. The staff was quite clear about this in their post nsd press conference and if he doesn't contribute this year it would be a poor evaluation on their part.

2&3) The staff has been quite clear that Maybin will be a safety. With both being EEs there are certainly minutes back there for at least 1 of them. Especially when you consider our lack of safety depth. Other than Mcneil we've got a safety coming back from a torn ACL, and one that can't tackle. Granted this could all change if Cody Blanc makes the move from WR to safety this year.

4) I think he will get playing time from day 1,but starting might be a bit of a stretch. Don't see him coming in during the summer and being able to jump ahead of Vincent Dallas, Jason Croom, Drae Bowles (if he remains at wr), and Paul Harris. Also, to my knowledge clear details are no out there on his shoulder injury that caused him to miss the rest of his high school season and the US Army All American game which makes it even more difficult to pencil him in as a day one starter.

5) Maybe. Personally I'm hoping that Jacques Smith, Corey Miller, Jordan Williams, and Latroy Lewis step up enough that we don't have to give freshman dlinemen very many snaps (with Carr being the exception as I think it will be tough to keep him out of the lineup).

6) Now that I can agree with.

7) I don't know, we've got a good bit of depth in the slot especially with rumors that Devrin will be seeing snaps there as well this year. Jenkins is also one that imo could really benefit from a year in a college S&C program.

8) Agreed, we are not deep enough at RB to redshirt one.

Good stuff! any chance sapp/Brewer ends up starting at olb, or necessity keeps brewer at ss?

I know Hubbs and others have been pretty consistent on the fact that Sapp is holding onto that last starting lb spot at the moment. Also, there are pictures out there of Brewer working out with the LBs. I'd be surprised if we ever see him at safety again, unlike the last staff I'm guessing this staff realizes that he does not have the speed to play in the backend in the SEC. Assuming Maggitt comes back healthy and is ready to go from day one (which admittedly is a rather large assumption) that last OLB position will probably be one of the more interesting position battles throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

I don't think any of these players will be "immediate impact" like CP was... home your expectations.

At BEST, 2 of these guys will play more than 50% of the snaps. At BEST.

If Worley wins the job this year then he will start until he leaves barring major regression or injury. Its not good for the team to flip flop, especially considering that Worley will be a 4th year senior in 2014.
