Impact Players of 2014

It is so true that the 2014 class is young and have never played a snap at the major college level. That is why I see 6-6 as the "expected" outcome next year. But I expect next year's team to finish strong. Once these kids get battle tested, they will be terrific and make a lot of noise.

I see us playing better but I see the same win/loss record as this past season.

Loss: Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri, Vandy, Ole Miss, Florida

Toss Up's: Georgia & South Carolina

Wins: Kentucky, Utah State, Arkansas State, Chattanooga

No way. We'll be improved next year and Vandy will be without Jordan Matthews. They would have lost this year without him.

Mean Vereen

Von Pearson

Chris Weatherd

Marquez North

Those are my picks.

Who is going lead this team to a winning season and ending the gator streak next year?

We will not have any better than a 4-8 or 5-7 season unless one of those "impact players" is one of the QB's on the UT roster.

I want us to qualify for a bowl game next season but we will be very young and still not have much depth.

Should we be able to win the close games, then we will be able to get to a bowl game.

Close games in 2013 that got away from us were the UGA, Vandy & Florida games.

Close games in 2012 that got away from us were Missouri & Mississippi State.

Got to win the close games.

Good stuff Rudy123. I definitely agree with you. Too many questions right now (especially at QB and on the OL/DL) to expect much improvement in 2014.

Dobbs after playing against all our toughest opponents wins over a senior who maxed out his abilities and an inexperienced freshman backup.

Lane/Hurd split carries.

North and Malone on the outside with LP in the slot.
Croom in the te/slot hybrid role.

Sutton and hopefully Jackson at corner.
Maggit at lb.

I don't see Worley as the starter. I see Fergy as the starter.

I recall hearing the same thing about Peterman and then Dobbs. We all know it, and yet, still succumb to it: The backup quarterback is always the most popular guy on the team.

Fact of the matter is, we need to squeak out 6 wins next year. I don't care how ugly it is, just get to 6. Any of the four QBs is capable, I believe, but it just gets old hearing about how "the other guy" is the best on the team...we're just not playing him...

In other news, I think the man for next year is Jalen Hurd.

Vandy is losing Matthews. They won't be good.

If UGA and USCe are toss ups, so is Ole Miss.

I don't see Worley as the starter. I see Fergy as the starter.

This season bUTch was trying to red shirt the two freshmen and trying to get us in to a bowl game, so he played Worley.

Next season, he will begin to look to the future. Worley will be a senior and it is time to give the q.b. of the future time to get broken in.

We don't need to play Worley in 2014 and then in 2015 have to break in a q.b. that has had little playing time.

In 2015, we should be ready to post our first winning season since 2009. We will still lack depth at some positions but our key starters should have plenty of experience.

Also, I think Worley has topped out, as far as his potential growth in the future. Once Fergy starts to play, it will be obvious that he has more up side than Worley has...

I love when VN predicts the guy who's never taken a snap as the starter.

Agreed, however I would put Vandy as a toss up

It might just be me but I see Riley Ferguson taking some snaps starting the season! I still feel there is a reason Coach Jones left him red shirted. Perhaps he was hoping for all these guys who have verbally committed to actually commit before he used Ferguson's red-shirt.

I think Hurd and Malone will see some reps and have success. That being said, I see Pig getting less snaps. I don't think he's got what it takes to continue to hang with our incoming recruits.

I don't see Worley as the starter. I see Fergy as the starter.
The disrespect Worley takes here is simply incredible. He did all the bleeding while the WR's cut their teeth. He looked worse than he played on a consistent basis as he helped shepherd those guys along. Yet somehow that means he has no talent.

We've never seen Ferguson. All we have are sporadic and inconsistent reports out of practices.

We saw Worley when they let him go a bit put a scare into UF after sitting the first half. We saw him lead the team to within a few inches of a signature win over a more talented UGA team. We saw him lead the team to a win over USCe. Yet it seems folks here can't dismiss him fast enough... in favor of either a Fr who struggled this year OR a guy that the coaches consistently described as neck and neck with that Fr.

Maybe he comes along and wins the position. If he or Dobbs takes the job from Worley... then UT will have a very good QB.

This season bUTch was trying to red shirt the two freshmen and trying to get us in to a bowl game, so he played Worley.
Worley gave them the best chance of winning. Barring some extraordinary development by one of the other guys... he likely will again.
Also, I think Worley has topped out, as far as his potential growth in the future. Once Fergy starts to play, it will be obvious that he has more up side than Worley has...

Based on what? Was he a better HS player? No. He wasn't.

The only tangible thing anyone has pointed to was Ferguson's appearance at the Elite 11. That's just not enough proof.

It's gonna be tough to beat Georgia if Marshall and Gurley are healthy. I'd put them as a loss, and Florida as a toss up.

That said, it's tough to imagine how different things could look with Weatherd, Lambert, Maggitt, Kelly Jr, and maybe Evan Berry on the field for our defense. We should be MUCH faster which is fun to think about considering how many turnovers we created with guys who had concrete in their shoes.

It's also tough to imagine how different things could look for our offense... considering we are replacing all 5 OL and don't know who our QB will be.

It will start at the defensive front, and the battle of rushing yards. In the sec, the game is won at the line of scrimmage on both sides.
