USC's depth chart was nowhere near empty on defense like UF's is. They returned 6 starters and alot of jrs and srs to their defense this year.

As for Carroll and don't take this wrong because he is definitely a very, very good coach... but his greatness is probably inflated by playing in the Pac10.
