Beyond dumb
If you don't think white skill position athletes are looked at differently, you are naive. Not saying it's right, but anyone who performs outside of societal norms generally is met with skepticism. It's how our society is trained to treat people. Whether it's an uncomfortable opinion or not.

That's why the Rooney Rule exists and black QBs took so long to get a real look as legitimate team leaders.

Silly respone aside...take a sociology class. It's not a new concept. I'm not attempting to shock the board and I'm nowhere near a fan of this type of behavior or ideology. But the concept is real. Society likes to fit people into their neat little package of what they are supposed to be based on appearance, race, gender, size, etc. It is hard for outliers to "break the glass ceiling" so to speak.

May be.. and you could argue all day about what if any relationship exists between this kid's race and his limitations. It's a sketchy topic.

But this kid just doesn't have the straight line, breakaway, change of direction he would need at such a high level. He should go to Division II, get a great education, and break records.

Agreed. But speaking from strictly a fooball talent standpoint, this kid is not even a power 5 player...

Channing Fugate was a much more versatile and better athlete than this kid. They don't compare well. This kid is slow, but has good feet....

Take Grimes and make him play Hback before this kid becomes a Vol

I think it’s simply the competition he’s playing against isn’t very good and he is kinda small. There’s a white 4 star WR in the state for next class, and multiple from this class, the previous and the next. Also pretty sure Christian McCaffery was a high 4 coming out of high school.

EDIT: Also the number 1 All-Purpose back for 2021 (a 5 star) is white.

5-10 is short but 225 lbs isn't small; kid's built like a tank. FWIW, New Palestine is Class 5A and the team they just destroyed (Cathedral) barely lost to Elder (OH) and St. Xavier (OH) in the regular season, two top-50 teams nationally. Cathedral beat Trinity (KY) handily, another very strong team.

Some perspective on Spegal's performance Friday: Even though Cathedral gave up a combined 287 yards rushing on 60 carries to Elder and St. Xavier, they were still allowing just 77 yards rushing per game (2.5 ypc) coming into the New Palestine game. Spegal torched them for 284 yards on 30 carries, essentially matching two national powerhouses' rushing totals on half the attempts.

Didn't realize he already has a Tennessee connection:

This opportunity from Tennessee appears to be very enticing. "The history of Tennessee University football," Spegal started in. "All the years of success. The awesome facilities and playing in the SEC. I’ve been to a couple games there with my family and the atmosphere is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it before."

Spegal's mother is from Tennessee. Beyond that, Tennessee is a place where Spegal sees potential to get on the field and make a major impact. Danny Stiff extended the good news. "He said that they are looking for someone to carry the rock and catch," Spegal recapped. "He said I could have a chance to earn a scholarship. He said he thinks I can be the starter for fullback because they don’t even have one on their roster."

...“People see that 1980s and 90s fullback when they see him but he has a lot more wiggle than people think and he’s got a really great burst as well,” (NP head coach Kyle) Ralph told 247Sports back in March. “I told a lot of people that come in here the difference when you run a combine 40-yard dash you’re just in a t-shirt and shorts. When you play the game of football you’re wearing a helmet, you’re wearing shoulder pads, you’re wearing cleats, you’re wearing leggings, all that stuff. He’s so strong those pads don’t slow him down and he doesn’t get caught very often. Maybe he’s not a combine 40 kid but when he plays football he can get it done at long distance because I think his zero to 20 yards is as elite as you’re going to find. A great runner, physical runner, he’s a punisher, he does a tremendous job.”
Tennessee extends opportunity to nation's touchdowns leader

Our running backs continue to get blown up at or behind the line of scrimmage far too often. While I'm confident that our OL will continue to improve over the next 2-3 years, the addition of a hard-hitting fullback/short-yardage specialist like Spegal could make a big difference in a running game that's been one of the SEC's worst over the last decade. I'm all in for giving him that opportunity with a scholarship offer now.

Earl Campbell was 5-10 and there was never anybody that considered him small.

He said...have a chance to earn a scholarship. Does that mean PWO?

A friend of mine, Cam McDaniel (former RB for Notre Dame, played in the NC against Bama) was Mr Football in Texas 5A, won the Landry award (Heisman for Texas HS football) and broke the NFL shuffle record as a junior at 3.8 seconds. He also held the state record in APY until his brother broke it last year. He had over 30 D1 offers including Air Force, Oregon and Stanford. He was told by a coach at Texas and a coach from an SEC school that if he was black, he’d get more looks at RB. But they thought he may be better as a safety even with all of his accolades. It’s a real thing.

Yes, PWO’s can be placed on scholarship going into their 2nd year. Going into their 3rd year, they can be placed on scholly without taking up an initial counter, so they count against the 85 but not the 25.
edit: apparently the rule has recently changed, allowing all PWOs to go on scholarship after one season without taking up a counter. Even better!
