No mention of the Fiesta Bowl???  ... got all the breaks.... .

I think that's why it's not mentioned more...the breaks definitely rolled our way that game and that year....no chris weinke, got the huge bomb to peerless, the int by goodrich etc...

Not taking anything away, cause everyone did do a GREAT job that year, including the coaches....and i'm very proud of it...so please don't get me wrong.... :mf_surrender:

But you got to admit, when people(and by people, i mean other teams' fans, media etc...) talk about 98, the only play they remember is the fumble by Stoener....

Too many games to make either list.

Here are some bad ones, but not in order:
Don't remember the year, but losing to Duke and also to Memphis. :bad:

Good ones!
Beating Gator's in OT in '98.
Beating Michigan!
Beating Miami in the '85 Sugar Bowl!

Worst:

95 Florida - Went in at half up 30 -23 and lost 62 to like 37.

99 Arkansas - might have cost us a shot at title.

Both times we played Penn. St. or Neb. in bowl games.

05 Florida - I think we let that one slip away.

99 Memphis - we won, but man it shouldn'y have been that close.

01 Georgia

92 Arkansas and S. Carolina - the end of Johnny ball.

All time winner is 2001 SEC champ game to LSU.

Best:

01 Florida

95 Bama

86 Sugar

98 Georgia

98 Syracuse

89 UCLA

89 Cotton

89 Auburn

92 Georgia - no way we should have beaten those guys.

The best coached game I ever remember was the 1986 Sugar Bowl. The Vols destroyed the #1 Hurricanes 35-7 after entering the game as heavy underdogs.

In that game Miami opened with a quick drive down the field to score. However, the defense led by Dale Jones destroyed Vinnie Testeverde with a thousand different blitz packages and made that first drive the only highlight for the Canes in that entire game.

In my opinion, it was this game that exposed all the weaknesses of Testeverde's game. From that game forward, every team facing him knew how to shut him down.

The offense in that game had Daryl Dickie playing one the coolest games of his career. Remember, he was actually playing in place of the starter (I think it was Tony Robinson). The offensive play calling was also superb.

I would love to find a copy of that game. I used to have a video tape of it I would watch periodically, but I lost it between moves years ago.

Another favorite was that same season in September 1985 when Auburn with Bo Jackson came to Neyland Stadium and got their tails kicked.

I remember Bo Jackson pulled himself out of the game in the third quarter after a leg injury. But, after the beating he had taken during the game, it looked like he was sick of getting beat up and left the game.

My dad and I were sitting on the 50 yard line in the upper deck during that game (I was 15). He kept laughing at Jackson the Heisman hopeful being embarrassed by the Vol defense.

I was married during the Miracle at South Bend (11/09/91). We were on our way with the wedding party for a meal at Ruby Tuesday's in Gatlinburg when the ball bounced of Lincoln's rear end and ended the game.

My family still to this day gives me a hard time for letting my wife plan our wedding during that game. I remember my uncle Clarence outside the church after the ceremony with a little transistor radio and an ear phone. He had a big crowd of guys around him and he was giving the play by play for them.

When ND missed that field goal, all the cars were on their horns and people were screaming out the windows. It was a blast.

Best: National Championship win over Fla State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Worst: Can't remember the year or the bowl, but UT was leading Penn State and absolutely folded up in the second half. Ended up getting blown out badly. Anybody remember it? I'd almost forgotten but this thread got me thinking back.

Also, not related, the most memorable game for me was the SEC championship game against Auburn in the Ga. dome. Everything that could go wrong for the Vols did, fumbles, interceptions (not PM's fault), and the blocked extra point Auburn ran back for two points. But Peyton came through in the last few minutes to pull it out for us. I still watch the tape occasionally and still can't believe we won that one.

That was a great one. Auburn was ranked #1 with the Heisman favorite in the their backfield and came to Knoxville and lost by 18. :dance2:

Actually, I think he was talking about the '91 Fiesta Bowl. We were on our way to 600 yards total offense and ended up getting blistered.

I think it was the '92 Fiesta Bowl which would have been played at the end of the '91 season.

I thought the 94 Citrus we were leading or close at the half at lost by like 20.
