Indiana didn’t want to ‘devalue’ its home court by hosting an NIT game

I get that, but who really cares though? If they want to get together and have a JV tournament and play an extra game or two, who does it really hurt?

Do you also support participation trophies?

The NIT may have history behind it, but it's become a tournament hardly any of the P5 schools really care about. That's become obvious the past few years as the high seeds usually exit very quickly. I don't even know why people act like it's a big deal to lose in the NIT anymore.

Because it's just embarrassing. If you don't want to play, then just don't accept the invitation.

I don't disagree, but if that's how they really feel, decline the bid.

The way they've come out makes them sound like they are too good for it, and I hate to break it to them, but they aren't. Right now they are like the actor who won an Oscar 25 years ago who still acts like they are a big star, but everyone else knows they aren't.

So basically they are the Ashley Judd of basketball

Personally I think they should have just offered to play somewhere else in state. I know a few years ago Kentucky fans were upset that they went to NIT instead of NCAA. Kentucky athletic department decided rather than not filling up RUPP to use the old Memorial Coliseum. It turned out fans loved it for nostalgic purposes. People who never would have went to NIT did to see them play there. I often felt that way here when we were in NIT why not play in Stokely before they tear it down. In Indiana's place they could probably find a huge high school gym in Indianapolis to get some fans interested in going. Obviously they wouldn't ask to use Hinkle fieldhouse while Butler is in the NCAA tournament. Now that would be embarrassing. Lol

I think there are about 3x as many NCAAT eligible teams... about 350. There are about 115 bowl division football teams.

Yeah I enjoyed the challenge of taking Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers to National Championships on the old EA sports games. Schools like that play basketball and are nowhere near capable of being on a bowl division in football. Lol

Coug said that the NIT is the equivalent of the bowls that take 5-7 teams. Are you agreeing with him or Yankee and me?

The NIT snubs teams with winning records. Now the CBI or whatever might be likened to the ehhh. The NIT is a good tournament. So I am on board with Yankee and yourself.

If I am Indiana, I'd take Donovan over Alford. The last time Alford was coaching in the Big 10, it didn't go so well. Coaching out west has been the best thing for his career (NM and UCLA).
