Injury updates?

That's good news. Honestly, while I can appreciate the leadership and experience our injured players bring, I'd rather roll the dice with healthy bodies. WR's with a bum hand, shoulder/colllar bone and another with a leg injury. Gotta think a healthy Matthews and Nimrod might be better options? And as for White as a punt returner, I'm so ready to see Carter get his hands on a ball in space. Might be a mistake fest due to the youth, but right now, we need some playmakers. If Bru, White and Thornton were healthy, it's no contest. But they aren't healthy. Let's roll with the youngsters.
I like it. That’s what got us (Heupel) here in the first place. We can’t plan or play scared.

I actually think that Thornton is out for the season, Bru for Saturday at least, and White for a few weeks too. Ask me why and I’ll tell you why. It’s not because I’m an expert on sports medicine, but Thornton looked like a knee injury we need to mend, Squirrel was loopy, and Bru’s whole hand was bound into a brick.

Thornton played after the injury and caught a couple balls.

Florida appears to be seriously depleted by injuries.

Tennessee vs Florida Official Injury Report

MSN

Both QB and top RB for Gators are Ok. Remember that we have had more talent MANY times and lost in this wretched series.
But this game is more about us than them.
How much was our confidence shaken, especially offensively, last Saturday.

Can our offensive tackles play improve?
Can our backs block better in pass protection?
Can our WR get quicker separation?
If not, will we throw more to Sampson/Bishop and our TE?
Can Nico see the field better, quicker, and make smarter decisions including running more with abandon and not tentatively worrying about getting hurt by prematurely sliding or running OOB?
Can we stop with the pre snap penalties and stupid personal fouls?
Can our D force more 3 and outs and give up no more 8 minute drives?
Can our much ballyhooed Dline actually be DOMINANT against SEC teams? Where are the sacks and qb hurries?
Can our coaches make better in game substitutions, adjustments and better clock management?
Can our punt returners just concentrate on catching the ball and not allow 20 extra roll yards?

(Day-um…I’m asking for a helluva lot, ain’t I? 🤪🤪🤩).

Pimo, I think we are pretty much on the same page, technically ...

... but, 1. I was not basing my assessment of MM on just 2 plays. Were you?

And, 2. "Pump the brakes" SMDH
What else are you gonna assess him on his haircut? He hasn't played much (actually no meaningful snaps unless you call up 58 Vs Kent state crunch time), all I can take from that is coaches don't think he is ready yet or he is hurt. Not saying he is not a great player....just saying haven't seen enough to know. He's played in 3 games so far mostly on special teams (had a 32 yard return also against Kent State). Maybe With Thornton nicked up he gets his chance Saturday?

I personally think that Matthews has crazy physical talent. I can't wait for him to be ready. However, the fact that he isn't seeing the field means that he still has more to prove in practice to put himself ahead of others for snaps.

I am hoping and praying the Gators play us on defense like they played UCF. Also Florida had a lot of names in their backfields (offensive and defensive) nicked up. They have more bodies out 9 than we have on the report total 7. The fact we have no linemen on the report makes me very happy. Because end of day thats what determines this teams fate... We have depth at WR Missing Bru or Squirrel would suck missing Thornton also, but im more comfortable iwth our WR depth mor than any other unit than the Dline and yes @orangebloodgmc Matthews is included in that calculation.

You’re right. He did. His injury is what bothered me most though. I’ve no experience with it, but I’ve heard that after tearing a ligament, you can be good-ish until you aren’t. I’m sure the medical staff made sure that wasn’t the case before sending him back out.

I don't think Thornton will see the field. Squirrel and Bru will give it a go but I'm not confident they will be effective. They haven't been especially effective even when healthy if we are being honest.

Come Saturday, we're halfway through this season and we haven't seen signs of any of that happening. While teams can and do improve, I'm starting to think they are what my eyes tell me they are. Said it before the season started that they were an 8 win team if injuries didn't get us. I've seen nothing to change my mind.
