Insane amount of talent in Tennessee

And we have almost none of them. Insane!

Yes, but given the turnover and the zoo that took place when the last staff it's not totally surprising. The last AD and staff hires set this program back at least 3 years after hoping to get over the hump after Lyle.

Generally it should be the easiest to attain, it's an additional tie-in to families and the communities these players are from and it hopefully creates a larger fanbase than what would be created by an out of state player of equal caliber because of the shorter travel.

Just pick you a spot in TN. (say Nashville?) now from Knoxville as the center, draw a circle form Nashville (short travel!?!) If you really want to have it make real sense as to travel use Memphis (where many think a whole lot of top Tn talent lies). Get the picture?

I don't blame these top tn highschool players committing elsewhere. UT has been terrible for several years now. Coach has a difficult task locking down the Tn boarders in recruiting. I think he can and will in a couple years.

Certain players were McDonald's bagged here. The NCAA doesn't want to penalize the players. They do however want to penalize the institutions and coaches. They're dragging their feet so players that took money can exhaust their college careers before they rule so they won't have to rule them ineligible.

Also, the school that took the transfer could get into potential trouble by playing an ineligible player.

I just think you get the best you can from wherever you can. If it’s instate then fine. It just seems that some (not saying you) think that if the TN HC doesn’t land the best instate guys, then that’s a huge negative. I disagree.

It's a pride thing.
Yes you're right about getting the best players from anywhere.

But this has been explained many times.
It's about pride.
Tennessee Vol fans by and large are from the State of Tennessee. A kid that grows up within the borders of that state and plays football is going to be watched by UT fans all along his journey before college. And this kid comes from where you come from.

And you want to see if a Tennessee boy can play with boys from Florida, and Georgia, Alabama and Texas on the big stage.

Pride.

It's not some mystery...

Why do some fans think instate talent is so important?
Because it is. With that being said, would rather take the better corner from NJ than the corner from Nashville. Just want the best players, but you have to be able to get who you want from your state. Not comparing anyone to Saban but the first thing he did at LSU was lock up Louisiana, then at Bama he locked up Alabama.

In other words, ncaa wants to burn us but not Oklahoma and Bama who took our paid players. Makes sense.

Idk if I’d call it an insane amount of talent.

It’s still one to two 5* and eight to nine 4*

Now the state of Georgia, that’s an insane amount of talent. Three to four 5* and 28-30 4*

Bit of a difference in competition and school sizes too. Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Florida, among others are just on different levels when it comes to football.

Louisiana and Mississippi have the most NFL players from these states

Because most of those states only care about one thing: Football. Just look at some of the HS stadiums in those states they make a lot of college stadiums look like small town pop Warner fields. Kids flock to play there every year and it will never change

Still amazed that some complain about recruiting while the NCAA is looming overhead and every coach in the country is using that against us daily.
It’s also coming clear to me that many don’t know the damage NCAA sanctions and probations are INTENDED TO, and DO damage if not destroy a team for much longer than the probationary period. It typically takes 2-4 years AFTER the entire probation is served to just get back to competitive. That’s what it does

I just don’t feel that way. And it’s ridiculous when fans criticize a head coach if he cannot get a lot of instate recruits. Pride thing? Hogwash. So let’s say in 3 years we compete for the East and win 10
Games. That next recruiting class is a good one for instate. But Heupel doesn’t get hardly any of the best guys. Does that matter? No it doesn’t.
