2001 Income Tax "Insurrection" makes January 6th look like Romper Room.

Protesters storm Tenn. Capitol over income tax

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Lawmakers abandoned plans to ressurect a state income tax Thursday after protesters chanting "No new taxes" broke windows at the Capitol.

State police locked the statehouse after a crowd of about 200 jammed outside the Senate chambers with some banging on the doors and breaking windows. They accosted lawmakers as they made their way through hallways with police escorts. There were no reports of arrests.

Ok no. Why weren't these people hunted and treated like domestic terrorists? Why didn't this get attention for a year? Who was in charge of the planning? What members of Tn state legislature were involved? There has been a grave threat of violence in Tn ever since. How have we lived without those state taxes? We are suffering in this state.

This is horrible. What kind of world are we living in? I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight, hell, I may not be able to go to work in the morning due to the excessive levels of post article anxiety stress disorders this has undoubtedly caused. It's no doubt worse than Pearl Harbor, but not quite as bad as when they threw that mustard at Lane Kiffin that night.

A coworker said we're going down there. So we went in his company van and the horn did not function after the trip. I was sure someone was going to call the company and give his vehicle number.

I distinctly remember old Donnie Sundquist telling everyone Tennessee would fold without this tax. Idiot.

The date of this intrusion in Nashville is a day that will live in infamy.

What's sad is elected officials act as if they don't want to hear from their constituents, nor do they care what their constituents want them to do. They are supposed to represent the people that elect them, but instead they represent whichever political party they serve.

I remember that. I think Phil Valentine was one of the ringleaders.

A day worse than the Battles of Shilo, Franklin & Nashville combined the State of Tennessee was never the same after that dark day.

Because unlike washington, TN understands who actually owns the capital building. Hint: It is not the people who work there. In DC, congressional reps and their staff think they own that building and that it is sacrosanct to themselves instead of the people that put them there and whose interests they purportedly represent.

That’s at the local level as well. I’ve watched plenty of videos of some of our local school board members talking down to people voicing their concerns at meetings, as well as rudely play on their phones and computers while people are at the podium. Most of these people truly do not care about anyone other than themselves.

10/20/1978:

10,000 Tennesseans blockade Cumberland Avenue and attack a Kern’s Bread truck.
