How about this? If Utah finishes out undefeated, then they should be in a BCS bowl. If for no other reason than to see how they will stack up to real competition. If they win then it is justified, if they lose then that should close the argument on undefeated lower-tier teams and the BCS.

I think they've earned it. They've had that proverbial target on their chest the whole season, and they still managed to stay undefeated.

I'm not the biggest USC fan in the world although I do think Pete Carroll is a great coach. They have done what they needed to this year to be in the title game if they win out though. The only problem is that so has Oklahoma and Auburn. I don't want Auburn to beat UT but if they do and all 3 remain undefeated going into the Bowl Games I forsee a change by next season in the BCS to include the "plus one" model. It makes so much sense if they won't do a playoff to use the model proposed before this season started where you play all the bowls and then after them the BCS #1 and #2 teams play one final game for a true National Champion. Sure, there could be arguments over who is #2 if they do that but it's still better than what we've got now.

If all 3 win out and say USC plays OU in the title game and whoever wins and AU plays in the Sugar and they win then there would be one more game between the OU/USC winner and Auburn. Hey, if they do go to this model I bet if there's 3 undefeated teams next season nobody will argue over who's number 2 next year because logic would tell you the number 3 team would have a slight advantage in their bowl game by not having to play the number one team in the BCS Bowl.

I stand by the statement that if you win the National Championship, that you should be ranked #1 in the polls the next year until you get beat. So I do not have a problem with USC staying #1. But when you have 3 top ranked teams who are undefeated, and 2 of them play an extra game for a conference championship, then they should go over the one who doesn't.

If there is going to be an extra game... then # 1 and # 2 should not have to play in the 1st round bowl game. # 1 should play # 4 and # 2 should play # 3. Then the winner of that game plays for the NC.
