Spot on. Just moved from Lex and was amazed at the Cal worship there. Never jas a guy done less with more, yet he just blasts his players even though he praised them all summer. He brags about the 1 and done system they have yet whines about having a young and immature team. Maybe people are starting to see through him. Great salesman, bad coach.

Great read.

I can't believe he wants the players to sub themselves. That is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. This guy will be out of UK within 3-5 years. What a clown.

So much crap in your post.

1. He's done plenty. Multiple Elite 8's and a NC.
2. He's said numerous times he hates the one and done rule. I've never heard him brag about it.
3. He's not a bad coach. I'm not going to put him in the elite category, but he's certainly not a bad coach.

Yes, he's underachieved in the last two years. Can't argue against that.

Forde nailed the point about the last two years vs the first three.

No one can argue against those stats.

He wouldn't have won that NC without those key role players that he didnt recruit. Now they have no role players and its just a bunch of "me first" players taking a bunch of "my turn" shots as Jimmy D would say.

Cal hates the 1-and-done setup, and has said so numerous times. He does exploit it however. He'd be a fool not to.

The big point is that you need role players to have a successful basketball team. The last two questions say it all. It's very rare to find a 5 star, top 20 kid that wants to come in and be a role player.

Fair enough. My comment on 1 in done was in reference to the night they had 5 1st rounders drafted being greatest night in UK bball history. Wasn't speaking to the rule itself. My bad.I didn't word it right. I think he is a mediocre coach. I may have let my feelings for the guy cloud my post a bit. He has had talent to win a title every year amd all he does is whine.

the one and done stuff doesn't work unless there is a truly special recruiting class.

florida's best nba prospect is chris walker.

i think this is a great example of why it doesn't work. despite being clearly their best prospect, he clearly isn't ready.

we've gotten to a point where we debate whether a kid is ready or not for the nba and forgot to ask if the kid is even ready for college basketball. of course, it's not about being "ready", it's about talent in terms of the nba. but, if you are going to have them for only one year in college, they better be ready for college basketball.

cal wants to do this every year, cool.

i'll be glad to see florida win the sec again next year too

I could have done without the comparison to the fate of Jesus being left to the crowd.

But, other than that, it was a refreshing article.

And, it's hard enough to sub guys in a Rec-league game. Guys want to play. Unless they're just gassed, they're going to keep playing until a coach pulls them out.

Cal carries himself like he's the elite of the elite among coaches. Good to see him appropriately called out on many levels.
