Interior OL

I’m not chicken little, and I believe in Ellarbee, but according to friends on the staff our OL is getting blown up by our DL regularly. This is purely a talent problem. The older guys are nowhere near Carvin, much less Wright. The young guys aren’t strong enough yet. Of course some of this is improvement in DL talent and depth, but we’re not the best DL in our league by any stretch. We are having serious problems blocking inside runs and the backside of the QB. Mays has been pretty fragile for months and has missed a lot of practice. His healthy return is essential if we want to do well at n conference. We all better hope that we can get healthy and gel before we head to Florida.
I was coming to bump this but looks like people already have. People gave you a lot of **** for this and Basilio as well. The same goes for people saying not to expect Cooper back for the Florida game.

@Stoerner Fumbles Are Clipper, Reddick, Lang, Nichols, and Grant seen as guys who can be good by next season? Umarov looks to be next in line at RT at this point, unless Larry Johnson, III develops.

This needs to be a big emphasis in the transfer portal. Like, landing at least 2-3 guys who can play.
At this point, we should take 5 portal guys on the oline.

Again I’m glad that Heupel promoted a grad assistant with zero recruiting experience to the TE coach. It’s definitely paid dividends.
He was always listed on recruits mentions before his promotion…like Pope before his.

You railed against Karic and his performance has kept Nichols on the bench. I’d say he’s graded better than Spraggins…that scrub who shared SEC OL of the Week honors last year. You’re fake chirping background noise.

I’m not sure what your point is. The line has been bad across the board no matter what Spraggins did last year. Karic wasn’t even going to be playing much if Mays weren’t injured.

The only person keeping Nichols on the bench is Nichols.

How close is cooper to full strength?
I’m not sure he’ll get back to full strength this year. He’ll be sore even if he plays. He practiced again this week. No one knows if he’ll play today or next week. They’ll grade his pain in warmups and decide.

The weakness we have IMO is that we don’t have a true center other than Mayes. Ollie has done well in that he hasn’t had any snaps over the QBs head or ones that roll back to the QB, but he’s just a split second late on the block and was beaten by the Austin Peay DT and the Florida DT.
We definitely need to recruit a true center and also see if we can get one in the portal for the future

UTSA defense is solid. Not sure we can take anything away from our defense’s performance though since we aren’t playing against Frank Harris.

To be honest, I wasn't looking at my phone carefully. This was meant for the game thread lol
