Internet Slower for me than usual

I've done all of that stuff except reboot everything. The other comp was having problems and we're taking it to get fixed tomorrow. Maybe that will help.
My guess is the first question out of his mouth will be "Do you have anything on the computer you want to save"? Next thing he'll probably do is download a recovery disk ($10-$20) off the internet and restore your computer to the original factory settings and charge you $200.

This is pretty much my standard answer to slow computer issues. I move all important files to a secondary hard drive, reformat the system drive and reinstall the OS and other software. It usually takes me 2-3 hours to get everything back to a state I am happy with... but it works.

I can't really recommend such drastic measures to someone who doesn't know what they are getting into though.

The motherboard was fried so it was cheaper to just buy a new tower. Fixed the connection too so everything is smooth as of now.

I heard Dell and E-Machines suck. I think the best way to go would probably be to just build your own computer.

Yes, putting together your own desktop is almost always the best bang for the buck... and you are correct about e-machines. However, I don't know where you heard Dell computers suck. If I didn't build my own desktop, it would be a Dell.

Do you really think that is still the best way to go remus? I used to always build my own, but anymore by the time you price everything out, the price of the OS would put it over the top (if you need to buy it).

I haven't put together a new machine in about 5 or 6 years... yet another example of how things have changed.

I have added RAM, hard drive, and new video card to keep my machine decently up to date...
