Didn't we just give iran a ridiculous amount of money, and permission to mess with nuclear power?

It was Iran's money to begin with.

It was money they earned fair and square that got frozen in the SWIFT credit/payment system by Western banks because of sanctions over the last 30 years or so.

Don't get it twisted or confused. The US/West didn't "give" Iran anything. We only returned to them what they had rightfully earned.

So your pull the scab on a 15 year old wound for procedural manuevering?

Yes, because.....

".....While it is difficult to collect damages from an unwilling foreign nation, the plaintiffs may try to collect part of the judgments using a law that permits parties to tap terrorists’ assets frozen by the government."

But there's 2 things wrong with that.

1. Iran had 0 (zero) to do with 9/11
2. Iran already has most of its funds unfrozen

At the very least, why not just default on some of the $4-5 trillion in US treasuries that the Saudis hold? That would be way more productive than this.

I don't see anyway this is upheld, or actually goes anywhere. Not sure how a US judge has the jurisdiction unless there was something from the UN?

civil action. which makes it even more unclear to me how this type of thing happens. how long until someone sues the sun for sunburn?

This whole thing is laughable. Giving Saudi Arabia sovereign immunity and placing blame on Iran. Speaks volumes of our future intentions...

Makes us and our judicial system look like stooges..

It's a goofy ruling by a federal judge. That's hardly a policy position by the government. Relax.

Really?

Goofy judge or goofy ruling... either way, which country has our govt treated like a sponsor of terrorism and which country has our govt treated like an ally in the fight against terrorism?

That is precisely the foreign policy position we've held for 30+ years in the Middle East.

Ask yourself the last time Saudi Arabia has had to deal with US sanctions.
