Great day at Barber - perfect weather and great access. Seven drivers were there: Tony Kanaan, Danica Patrick, Marco Andretti, Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon, Helio Castroneves and Vitor Meira.
Marco's trailer. If you haven't seen these, the cars go up top where the platform is sticking out and the bottom (behind the mirrored doors) is all cabinets. Nice mural down the side too. All the AGR trailers had these murals.
Vitor heading back to the track for the afternoon session. I swear I might have been the only person who knew who he was. He's driving right by AGR where everyone was looking for Danica...
The set up of the paddock puts allows you right at the pits - basically a chain link fence separates you from the pit stall. I guess I was about 5 to 10 yards from the drivers and teams.
Same for their work areas - no fence so you can walk right up to the trailers. No one was at Vitor's trailer (just 2 guys working their) and they didn't care if you walked right up to his car.
The viewing areas let you get about 10-15 yards from the track.
The comments from the drivers were all positive (some was probably PR BS). The each said they'd like to have a race here and Helio said IRL has to have a race here.
Evidently, there is a better chance of it happening than I thought before. :dance2:
Some were testing 2 new driver aids for 2008 - paddle shifters and steering assist (maybe some type of power -assisted steering).
