Is anyone else just....bored with it?

Thinking about it this morning, I don't think my issue with this season is so much the fact that we're losing (though it does suck) as it is that they're just not a very fun team to watch. Even back when we were losing under Dooley, at least the offense was dynamic and we had playmakers that were fun to watch. However this team is just so blah. There's nothing dynamic about them. We have players on offense that I do believe are capable of being dynamic like Calloway, Smith, Jennings, Jordan, etc. But none of it is translating on the field. On defense, I just don't see anyone that ignites the team or the crowd. Watching this team play is like watching paint dry.
Banks will be fun to watch when he learns to hold on to the ball.. not so fun right now tho

I somewhat agree, OP. The UT games are boring with moments of elation sprinkled few and far between. Used to be the opposite.
I also mentioned in another thread last week that college football overall is boring too. Year after year of Bama, Clemson, tOSU has taken much of the drama out of the weekly contests.

I feel about the same as Dooley's last year. Which is unfair to CJP. Every other coach I've given three years.

Edit: I'm still.behind CJP. I'm just not as excited for the games in general. I hope we are headed in the right direction.

This last coaching search just took a lot out of me. Like when you find out the woman you love has cheated on you. Haha.

I don't want to be entertained. I want them to win.

I agree with Finebaum for once. Bama is sucking the life out of college football. Shouldn't be that much separation year after year. It seems to be getting wider every year. I know everyone else needs to get their house in order but something ain't right down there.. Reeks.

You crazy. I now live for coaching searches. It's the most exciting part of Vol football. We are the coaching search champions. Getting excited about the next one. I feel that...THIS TIME...it's time.

There are only 3 schools I give a rats a$$ about, and all three are, well, not very good (APSU is at least respectable in the OVC). So 2018 is kinda a washout for me anyway.
My joy will come when Bama and Ohio St lose and whenever UF loses. That's all I have to look forward to.

well, that's kind of the thing isn't it?

does it really matter how ordered your house is compared to Bama?

what they've been doing, for as long as they've been doing it, is so far at the other end of hte spectrum from everything else, it's literally not worth the effort to compare them to anyone else.....i mean sure, year to year, you look at match ups or whatever, but over the time line they've been doing this....

it's just ridiculous.

point being, you could be really, really good, and have your house in order, and go 9-3, 10-2 or 11-1....a lot....and still basically pale in comparison, especially if you're in the same conference or division as them. that's why Les Miles got fired. LSU didn't suck....they were winning. they recruited at a high level. but their margin for error was so small b/c of the Bama game. if you lose to aTm or Auburn or GA, you're basically done. 10-2 and you're out. 11-1 and you could be out. but 8-4 looks flat awful compared to Bama and on paper says you're light years away from being able to compete with them. when in reality, you're probably on par, or better than most of hte other teams in the conference.

i do think the recent coaching changes will help long term. Smart at GA obviously is on the right track. you'd think aTm and Jimbo will get it together. even Gus has beaten Bama and GA recently. if you can get LSU, FL, and TN kinda back in the fold, you at least are making the road a little more difficult for them.

right now, they're not even being challenged.

It’s just like Star Wars. With each episodic release you say to yourself “This is when they turn it around and stop sucking” only to find out each release is worst than the last.

I suggest finding new, fulfilling hobbies while trying to follow the Vols casually. It has worked for me the last few years.

Winning cures all. We start winning again the games will get a lot better.

When players mentally get it, their physical talent begins to show. Most of our team mentally isnt there YET.

Come on staff! Get em there!!

Yeah, that's a good analogy and I have pretty much been doing this. The only games I've actually watched this season from start to finish were the WV game and the Florida game. The others, I've either been busy with other things or I just had no interest.

I don't see anyone right now that can play within 14 points of them. That's scanning the nation for a team, can't find one. I do think in the coming years it will gradually get tougher for them and that's a good thing. Maybe he retires in 5 years or so. He's has a formula no one else has. Assistants come and go and they don't skip a beat.

yep. the way, is just the way. it's like the freaking borg. assimilate or die. lol.

i think GA can give them a game, but i don't think they can outscore them, and i don't think their defense can stop them long enough to matter. Clemson, OSU? maybe? but they've both played clunker type games already and don't look like a team (right now anyway) that could line up and just beat 'em.

the only thing i would say about bama, is that they simply haven't been in a game where htey HAVE to make plays that matter to the outcome. they've played no one. and they won't til very late in the season.

so i do wonder, if they found themselves in a game, late in the 4th qtr, could they make the "play" that could determine the outcome? of course we saw that happen last year in the NT game, so i'd go with "yes"....lol.

they just haven't had to do it this season. not sure they will. Tua hasn't even played in the 4th qtr. their punter has, what, 15 punts the entire season??? 6 of those came against aTm....

no where near as bored as watching BAma play football. can't remember the last time i watched a whole game. lol.

bama football is like nascar. it's good background noise, and you check at the end to see if there's anything worth watching, and promptly flip the channel.

bama is so bored by winning they're not going to the games anymore....there's empty seats in that stadium.....and this could be the best team that ever took a field to play college football.

at least we still have the prospects of a chance something different might happpen, and that's worth watching......at least until it's not. lol.
I must disagree.. Watching the Bama offense over the last few years has been boring. Not this year. No, this is not the best college team ever, the defense is just not quite what it usually is. Now, next year your prediction may be true. God!! I'm tired of having to here Bama as the subject or success all the time.

I'm getting to the point where I don't really even like watching sports anymore in general. Joined a few rec leagues a couple years ago and am finding myself far more invested in those than the outcomes of games played by kids or spoiled millionaires.

ok, you have fun watching them win games 52-17. should be a great time...........

I feel the same way more or less OP. I will watch every snap of every game, but it just isn't as fun. It is almost boring. I went from getting upset, to straight up apathy. Hopefully, something will start to click with the team, and we can start seeing some exciting football.
I'm like you, can't shake the apathy of watching the whole game, which I do. But I catch myself getting riled up over a good play and even more for a bad play now and then.

Best offense they've had since he's been there. Tua hasn't been pressured. When they do try he runs. He can run and pass, he's their X factor. If Hurts were playing they may look beatable. One guy made that much difference. My suggestion to Pruitt is get out there and find us a guy that elevates our team. We need him and a bunch around him.

I still go to the home games and all, but this year is just different. I've not watched nearly as many non-UT games (or UT away games) as in years past, because they don't have much meaning at this point. Like @Jack Burton mentioned, maybe it's just that I've turned to more fulfilling hobbies...even with the home games it's getting tough to justify the time and money expenditure to get to Knoxville to be bored out of my mind on an otherwise nice Saturday. The only thing keeping me going to the games is it's an opportunity to hang out with my dad, but hell...we could be posted up at a brewery or on a trout stream and be having a more enjoyable time.

I'm not sure it is all BVS. I think all football is taking a hit with "safety" rule changes and the whole NFL debaucle.

You are an Oakland raiders fan man...... Really?

Besides recently when was the last time they were dynamic? You bored with both teams?

Well, I found the Florida game perversely exciting. Like watching an episode of the old Benny Hill show. Laughs a minute. Riotous humor. I literally laughed out loud.
