anymore for our next head coach? After whiffing on the gruden clause and watching my team put up 36 points in a college bball game (yes I know this is separate from football), I am struggling to stay afloat. Anyone else?

Step in off the ledge, Mal. We don't have to kill ourselves to come back from this.

Once someone is hired, people will gripe then get behind the coach with excitement. People are anxious right now.

There are some exciting possibilities but nothing of the Gruden level.

I think the right coach and right staff could definitely bring excitement but I am skeptical for now.

I am ... I know a lot would rather have Strong than Gundy, but I would like to see a Gundy offense teamed with one of the top defensive minds.

There are no options that are overly exciting to me. I'd be okay with Mora then Strong or Patterson. Either way I feel like I will be underwhelmed at the end. Chris Peterson would be the monster hire in my opinion. And you don't have to tell me that ain't happening, i know.

I think for me the difference now is my enthusiasm for next year. I had already told the wife to prepare to tighten up a little bit in order for us to make a donation and purchase season tickets if Gruden were hired.

These guys may be end up being great, but I need to see some on field the performance before I'm willing to buy in.

If I were in Knoxville this might be different but I'm coming from 4 hours away. Game weekends cost now so I have to ask myself if it is worth it.

When you emotionally throw all your eggs into the baskets of a coach who's never coached a down of college football, and a coach who's already at one of the elite jobs of the country making 5+ million a year.... You've already set yourself up for dissapointment.

Gruden was always a dream.
Stoops is at Oklahoma for God's sake making bank. Let's get real here...

Hard to be excited about football given there are no more games left in what turned into another miserable season.

Check back with me around Florida next year, and I'll be fired up regardless of the coach.

This program really needs to start winning some SEC games soon though.

The last five years have been a grind being a Vol fan. The casual fans have evaporated and a lot of the hardcore fans like myself are getting antsy. There isn't enough margin for error for many with another coaching whiff.

I'm excited. I supported Dooley to the end, but it's obvious that he just couldn't find "it". With that said, we appear to be going after some much more proven coaches, we are still Tennessee, and have A LOT to offer a good coach.

excited about Gruden! Anybody else...nope! I don't think any of the other candidates could turn us around as quickly as Jon Gruden! I love Grudens Swag and enthusiasum that he brings to the game! Nobody else even comes close in my opinion.

Not really excited at all. None of the names I'm hearing right now could be expected to win championships here. A 9 win coach may be alot better than what we had, but when you see your rivals getting better and better, settling for 3rd in the East isn't very exciting.

I'm excited that Dooley is gone. It dont matter if we keep our entire staff. At least we will have a better HC.

I'm excited about Charlie Strong. Defense wins championships..... actually, as we learned this year, defense wins football games in the SEC. I want to see our players knock someones teeth out.

I'm excited in the fact that I truly do believe that no matter WHO we hire as our next head coach, things are going to get better for our football program! I just cannot see how any of the names that's been mentioned could possibly be worse than Dooley. For that alone I am hopeful.

Having said that, I'm quietly rooting for Charlie Strong. I think he could be a great coach for us!

Strong would lead us to several 7-6 seasons and then he'd be fired
