not really excited...i'll wait to re-think once the new coach is announced. UT football used to demand greatness, now it seems to be content, so we shall see where we're taken to this next few years. I think administration took all the success for granted and lost sight of what it took to get there. Here's to hoping their eyes get opened one way or another.

No longer excited. Just weary and a little disgusted.

But, I'm still all in for Gruden until we have someone on the podium who ain't Gruden.

After the Gruden debacle I am trying to contain my excitement until an actual hire is made!

Can someone tell me how many daddurn people with excellent to poor sources could have all come up with soooooo much info/rumors on Gruden being our next coach??? I mean it wasn't one or two people, it was a whole big bunch.

Almost everyone would rather have Gruden...but it isn't happening. The Gruden mentality on this board is like getting ready to shop for a house and telling your realtor that you won't be happy with anything less than a $1 million house, while your realtor knows that the maximum you'll qualify for is $250,000.

I understand that we are Tennessee, but if you can't get Gruden (or Stoops, or Cowher, or Gundy, or _________, etc.) to come to the table, you can't just mope about it, you have to figure out who is the best coach that you CAN get. We have to trust that is the process that Hart is navigating at this very moment.

For the record, I'd be happy with Strong. I think he's a better coach than Dooley and that he can recruit much better than Dooley.

I'm excited in the fact that I truly do believe that no matter WHO we hire as our next head coach, things are going to get better for our football program! I just cannot see how any of the names that's been mentioned could possibly be worse than Dooley. For that alone I am hopeful.

Having said that, I'm quietly rooting for Charlie Strong. I think he could be a great coach for us!

I agree in the part that anyone is better than Dooley: however; this program needs a real homerun hire and I don't see that we are considering them. Instead we are interviewing Grundy, Fisher and Strong. If these are the candidates I guess I will hope for the best. It's much like picking the least worst instead of hitting it out of the park. I am somber and feel a long road still ahead at vol nation.

Gruden was the only Saban-type hire even remotely available. Since it looks like it won't be him, eh, I really don't care. I just don't see any of the names eing floated around as taking us past maybe a 10-win season, if that.

I also think the streaks vs UF and Bama will continue indefinitely.

Yes because just about all of the names are better than Dooley. At this point I'm ready to celebrate mediocrity as opposed to complete suck. Once we actually have consistent 8 and 9 win seasons then I'll feel free to piss and moan about how we never pull a 11-12 win season anymore.

If thats where we are then just hire me. I was born and raised in tenn. Also coached my sons pee-wee tean to a 8-0 record. Thats about as good as any of the other options.

Ill be decently excited if we get Gundy and a good DC. I may lose the will to live if we go with Strong, etc.

Im not as excited as I wish I was but im trying to be optimistic about it. I got a little too hung up on the whole Gruden deal but looking back with a little more level head I tend to think it might not have went as great as a lot of people thought. The recruiting wouldve been great but I also hear of a lot of Tampa Bay fans that despise the guy.

Id get somewhat excited about Gundy, Fisher or Strong. none of the others seem likely to me.

Once someone is hired, people will gripe then get behind the coach with excitement. People are anxious right now.

I think there are a lot more people that have gone to the sidelines than you or the AD think. Unless something crazy happens Hart and the AD severely mishandled this entire search by letting the fans build their expectations up to incredible heights with the Gruden talk to just wheel out a Strong/Gundy hire. If their successful people will obviously come back, financially speaking, but I think a lot of people have turned into casual fans until that happens. I can't blame them.

Outside of Gruden these are the only "homerun" hire out there man. There are no Kelly's, Meyer's, Sumlin in the dominating the minors for us to pluck. Chalk it up to TN bad luck or whatever, but the best Hart can do outside of Gruden is Fisher, Gundy, or Strong.

You won't be happy until you move on from Gruden, that's what I did.

Losing out on Gruden wouldn't bother me if I didn't feel as if we have/had a legitimate chance at getting him. If we asked and he said no, fine, but if we hire Strong when we could have had Gruden because Hart wouldn't make the commitment I am disgusted and that's how I feel right now. I just hope we can full disclosure from those that really know when this is said and done so we can get some closure on that.

So going by what we know we can officially confirm...not including "sources", "OGs" etc...Only thing we know direct from first hand accounts is LaMonte said he was never even contacted until last week. How Hart never contacted Gruden reps, or took weeks to do so, or from what we can tell, didn't have him at the top of the list....I think needs to be explained if/when we end up with second or third tier coach.

As a big time AD at a traditional powerhouse program, this should be inexcusable.

This is why I'm not excited, because it is a leadership problem at the top that will inevitably flow down to the program no matter who is coach.

Yeah, this is where I'm at too. If we couldn't get Gruden, fine. But there are too many reliable sources (even the AD brown nosers) who are saying he was interested and Hart didn't want to go through with it. To me, that's inexcusable and I'm not going to be happy with or support a lesser hire.

Nope. Not a big hire...not going to the games...not buying tickets....not buying UT stuff. Will stay home.

So this BIG HIRE is either Strong, Gundy, or Fisher. Nope not excited one bit. I feel like we are in the ranks of the middle lower class.
