Is Bates A Gateway To Other Florida Recruits?

We'll still pull some guys out of FL but I'm not expecting to get the all the highly rated players

No!!!! The main reason we got him was due to him being a legacy player.

Florida recruiting will still have F.S.U., Miami, & Florida getting the players they want. Then the players that they can't fit on their roster or ones that they don't want, will end up at Florida Atlantic or Central Florida.

The recruits that live in northern Florida, that everyone else passed on, will likely end up at Auburn or Georgia. Then we will have our choice at the "left over" players that are really good but F.S.U., Miami, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Central Florida, Auburn or Georgia didn't get.

No!!! We will get our share of the players that are not fans of one of the 3 big schools (FSU,Fl, or Miami) or have some pipeline to other school. Only reason to go to FIU or Florida Atlantic is due to grades imo.

We have to be able to pull some players from Florida each year, but IMO stealing recruits from Georgia and Ohio will be key for us in the next few years.

Luckily, it seems like Butch and co have some good recruiting ties to Ohio and Thig has some good ties to Georgia.

No. Absolutely not. His parents went to UT. He grew up a Vol fan.

He's from outside of Jacksonville. Not a ton of talent in that area compared to the middle and of course south Florida. He has no real connections to anywhere in the state that is their hotbeds of recruits.

He just happens to be a hell of a football player who happens to live in north Florida who happens to be the son of a Vol legend. It just is what it is......

Florida is so talent rich that all UT has to do is win and be competitive. We have always gotten good/great players from Florida just like everyone else. The big 3 will continue to own their state.

UTs bread and butter is the best from Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas primarily.......

The key rests with the relationship between CBJ's staff and high school coaches in Fla. If there is a great relationship there, it will go a long way toward wooing players from Fla. With that relationship in hand, early playing time possibility boosts our chances significantly.

Coach U.M got a break b/c Miami and FSU were down during his time there (plus he had Tebow). When those schools rise higher (which they are) UF's rich talent pool will drain somewhat (which will equate to some losses).

Yep ask Louisville. They have a roster full of recruits from Florida primarily because of their HC has ties to Florida, but also because they are winning.

Louisville signs players that the big 3 in florida did not offer. so much talent in that state that there are some really talented players that are not highly rated.

This is misleading information. Louisville and West Virginia either get kids the big 3 don't want and if they do they don't qualify. Which is saying a lot. They can get into Louisville and wvu but not Florida or Florida state?

Bates is a legacy. Both parents are UT grads. Don't make this into any more than it really is.

Don't try to look any smarter than you actually are. Bates grew up in Florida, and we all know what schools get first pick of HS talent in that state. Also, he was being courted by any and every school in the galaxy. On top of that, the team that has won the past 2 titles and looks to win a 3rd this year has also offered. You may not think this is a big deal, but I assure you it was. If Dooley were still here you can count Hurd, Kelly, and Bates out; to say Bates was a gimmie is just plain STUPID.

There's a reason more people agree with his post than yours.

Especially with the vitriol of your answer, he's right, no need to be so tore up over it.

Not sure ofwhat the effect will be on other recruits but it SURE CAN'T BE BAD! With UT signing the best LB out of Florida this year as well as the best LB for next year (Mr. Cherry - another legacy), the pipeline to that state appears to be getting a little bigger each year...
