Build a pipeline in Memphis. NO, this isn't just because of Stokes, Hubbs, and maybe now Nichols...it's about more...

This from Galilee, who many of you know...he's as reliable as it comes in terms of Memphis area basketball...

"Talking to people last night 2015 prospects K.J. Lawson of Hamilton, Jermiah Martin and Khalil Spencer of Mitchell were vey impressed with CCM."

I think the only thing left is winning...if Martin starts winning big, watch out.

Kentucky, Memphis and Akansas will still have a presence in Memphis....

Right now Arkansas is swinging and missing since Anderson got there. Who has Kentucky pulled from menphis lately?(a lot of that is because there hasn't been someone they really want) and yes menphis will always have a presence.

However, if UT starts pulling guys who Memphis has made a priority, that'd raise some questions in that city.

I just think its a big accomplishment, especially since Martin hasn't proved much yet on the court. Pearl had us in sweet 16's yet he couldn't break down the walls and pull anyone from Memphis who was highly rated...just think its quite the accomplishment.

wonder why a well spoken, father figure, African American would do well in Memphis.

Now, before you go there, more factors than race have to do with it of course, but Memphis is still in the 60's in some areas of metro. One of my first posts after CCM was hired (cookie please), was that Memphis doors were cracked when he inked the deal. His demeanor, skill and history of personal battles and playing in the NBA, have opened them wide.

Memphis to Chicago is in his wheelhouse. They will win big this year and it will finish opening up. Sure - other programs will get their share. But UT will be in the top 3 of most top recruits as long as we have Coach Zo and staff.

CCM is doing an awesome job but Pearl was recruiting against Cal for Memphis guys back then.

Play for Cuonzo or play for pre-pubescent Pastner and under achieving Memphis? Seems like a no brainer to me

Really? Cause I thought pastner and pearl tenures ran together at some point?

I'm also pretty positive if you look back that cal let many Memphis recruits leave Memphis, none of which went to UT.

Well I think I've made it quite clear how I feel about wholesale recruiting the Memphis area....Not to get back into that discussion but Pastner MUST start winning something or his recruiting abilities will take a hit....you can be loyal to your town college all you want but lets face it...most of the Memphis kids as is true probably with most kids I guess are interesting in getting to the next level with some relative success....the next two to three years will be HUGE in the future of both programs....

I think he'll continue to get Memphis talent, but Im not gonna sit and says its because Pastner cant recruit. When hes about to sign 4 top 100 recruits.

I thought Cal recruited more nationally instead of pulling the Memphis kids in. From what I understand is he found it much easier to to play, not play, control kids not from Memphis. Didn't have to deal with the local media, family, etc with kids not from Memphis.

Exactly, which was my point. Pearl wasn't exactly recruiting against cal for Memphis kids like the OP said, because many of those kids, Cal wasn't even recruiting.

This is what causes high expectations in the city of Knoxville for some people.

For some, cause if we don't reel in every 4 & 5* from Memphis people will start calling for CCM's head. Then there are others that can take it one day at a time and realize s*** doesn't happen overnight.

No they won't. This isn't football. As long as Martin pulls in top 25 recruiting classes and make the tourney ever year, everyone will be fine.

It's crazy how the transition from basketball and football is so different in the eyes of the fan base. I suppose its from being so good for so long in football and understanding we are a football school.

Part of it is there is a large portion of the football fan base that doesn't remember anything pre-Fulmer. They think a top 10 football team every year is their birthright.
Most basketball fans, except the fairly young, lived through Buzz ball and understand how to appreciate a program that is working it's way up.

Apparently, some think every town west of Dickson is part of Memphis.

I started at UT Martin with a bunch of guys from Dyersburg before transferring to UTK . In those days and probably still today, Martin was a suit-case campus. The Dyersburg guys went home every weekend without exception. They laughed at me when I asked if they wanted to go to Memphis for the weekend. Dyersburg's folks did not think of themselves as being from Memphis. I doubt that has changed.
