Apparently, some think every town west of Dickson is part of Memphis.
I started at UT Martin with a bunch of guys from Dyersburg before transferring to UTK . In those days and probably still today, Martin was a suit-case campus. The Dyersburg guys went home every weekend without exception. They laughed at me when I asked if they wanted to go to Memphis for the weekend. Dyersburg's folks did not think of themselves as being from Memphis. I doubt that has changed.
Exactly, which was my point. Pearl wasn't exactly recruiting against cal for Memphis kids like the OP said, because many of those kids, Cal wasn't even recruiting.
Oh he is...and right back to hubbs, they played on M33M together this year and became friends.
Bleed -FYI spoke with a good buddy in the Bluff City on Leron Black going to Baylor. It came down to Memphis, Vandy and Baylor. He chose Baylor because he has family in TX mainly. Sometimes it boils down to that. Could be other reasons, but this is what he is saying.
Really? Cause I thought pastner and pearl tenures ran together at some point?
I'm also pretty positive if you look back that cal let many Memphis recruits leave Memphis, none of which went to UT.
I decided to not be lazy for once and looked back through 2006 and I could only find one Memphis guy I wish we had gotten....Elliot Williams and he only had one good season.
But pearl tried for alot of memphis guys...it was widely known pearl was trying to get into memphis, but he couldn't.
In a year and a half CCM has busted down the walls and is close to setting up shop in Memphis.
My point was...yes cal was at Memphis, but that's not why pearl couldn't get Memphis kids.
Did Pearl not recruit him heavily? And didn't he commit to Memphis before Martin was hired?
Tennessee is one of the winningest programs of all time? pretty sure we were good before fulmerPart of it is there is a large portion of the football fan base that doesn't remember anything pre-Fulmer. They think a top 10 football team every year is their birthright.
Most basketball fans, except the fairly young, lived through Buzz ball and understand how to appreciate a program that is working it's way up.

Well said. While I was alive and cheering during the Major's era, I will admit being spoiled by Fulmer's success and taking it for granted. What I wouldn't give to be "disappointed" by a 10-2 season again.
No doubt. While I think Fulmer probably needed to go at the end the man had a great run. I will always wonder how great things could really have been if Cutcliff had never taken the Ole Miss job.
