Is Corn Elder worse then we got?

Collectively our fanbase is dumb, I agree. We have fans that still think Pearl cannot coach. You know, the same folks who think Career Loser Kevin O'Neill is a good coach, the ones who think Born on 3rd Kiffin is a good coach, and the ones who crowned Counzo as a God the day he replaced that evil mean cheatin' snake Pearl.

Perhaps those brilliant folks will post their dumb platitudes they used to hurl every other post, like "you are what your record says you are" while promoting the losers they worship.

Wouldn't the scholarship count against football anyway? What does CCM have to lose by allowing Elder to play basketball?

You can thank Pearl for not recruiting us a true point guard.

I wonder where the break off point is where the current coach starts getting the blame for the teams problems. Going into the 3rd recruiting class with Washpun, Moore, and Landry as pgs recruited. But let's keep blaming the previous staff for the Vols not having a pg.

Well he had the whole season to recruit a point guard and didn't. Tennessee has been hurting for a point guard since CJ Watson left. I love Bruce but he never had a true point guard that could handle the ball, shoot, stop the ball, and score the ball. Outside of watson and he didn't recruit him.

The day Watson left must have been the last UT bb that you watched.

Ramar Smith's Freshman year was pretty special.
I'll take Bobby Maze anytime. He's one of my top 10 all time favorite UT players. Nobody played harder or with more heart.
Goins was decent. Put him on this years team and we would easily be a NCAA tourny team.
We will all wonder "what could have been" when we see Chris Jones next year.

I'm starting to wonder if this is the issue?

Butch and football team hasn't offered (which surprises me)...I believe elder wants to play basketball but think he also wants to play football. So...if Zo offers basketball and he comes here and plays, what happens if he wants to play football? He'll be put on football scholarship, so now jones who hasn't offered him is forced to give him a scholarship?

Not saying that's the holdup, but I have to wonder. Does he want to be promised both sports and isn't being promised that?

It's hard to be a two sport athlete in college, especially at the SEC level. Some are saying they don't think Corn is D-1 level and now we expect him to split time between two sports? If someone isn't Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders quality at both sports than it's almost impossible to play two with the commitment both require.

Bruce Ellington is a better two-sport athlete than Elder and he had to quit football in order to put the necessary time in that basketball required.

Bruce Ellington quit football? Must have been an imposter wearing his jersey in the Outback bowl then.

I don't think a 2 sport athlete takes up 2 scholarships. Typically, it's a football scholly they use since no football is missed. 2 sport players playing football and basketball usually misses the first half of basketball because of the overlap, so it's really not fair to use the scholly in basketball. I'm pretty sure that Helton used a football scholly instead of baseball with the limited scholarships for college baseball. Not quite sure though.

If a player plays football and any other scholarship sport it automatically counts as a football scholarship. Helton was on a football scholarship. The SEC has this rule because the Bear used to get a bunch of guys on BB scholarships to increase his pool of football players.

Thanks for the clarification.

Ellington didn't play football last year?

Really? Never heard that one before. That Bear was one sneaky fellow. I do remember that he sent new jerseys, during the long ago tear-away days, into the huddle with an OG so his backs didn't have to leave the field. Tackling a back running from the wishbone was a real adventure back then.

Yea that's what I'm saying.

Maybe CCM isn't the holdup here, maybe it's butch? I believe elder wants to be promised his shot at both sports...however, butch hasn't and doesn't appear to be going to offer him in football. So...if Zo says come play basketball, do you see butch saying in the spring, sure I didn't offer you a scholarship before, but come on and play football now and I'll give you one?

If butch isn't going to allow him the shot at football, then it'd appear CCMs hands are tied.

While Pearl had some holes in his recruiting classes (everyone does) he usually had a decent Plan B. That being said, Pearl never was able to get quality depth at PG either. He usually had a pretty good first team guy, but the backup always seemed to be a question mark.

What crushed Pearl (and by extension, this years team) was Craft and Selby blowing up the summer before their senior seasons. He had 2 potentially great ones coming and then was left scrambling when they went elsewhere. The potential of a class that could have been Harris, Selby, Craft and McRae. Oh well.

I think we have offered in football. I know Coach Elder has been over a couple of times and I'm pretty sure we offered. I could be wrong but I know Rivals and 247 show we have offered as well. Seems like the hold up is more on CCM which is hard to understand since the scholarship wouldn't count against the bk team. Who knows what the deal is all I know is we need him at RB and I don't see what giving him a shot at PG would hurt.

Nope football staff hasn't offered. Evaluated him a few times but no offer, and there isn't expected to be one.

Golden played better for Bruce Pearl when he was subn for Bobby Maze. This is not a well coached team all the way around, and it is slowly turning into cancer. No focus. No discipline. No fire. They look like 5 bumblebees flying around in a mason jar. No leader. No mission. Does coach even call plays? School yard hoops.

You must have not watched Golden play last year...

Yeah...Golden never played behind Maze.
