Is Hendon Hooker still a Heisman contender?

What worries me about USC is if they beat UCLA, ND, and Utah that the committee would take a 12-1 conference champion over us.
Good news is that I don’t think they will win all 3 of those games.

We have SOS on our side. As much as everyone outside the south hates to admit it they know we have the best SOS of any 1 loss team. The committee knows that too. One loss conference champions do not control their own destiny. We'll be fine as long as TCU loses. If they don't we're probably screwed and they'll be this year's Cincinnati.

All the playoff scenarios give me headaches.

On the heistman front IF IF IF HH had the opportunity to account for 700 yards in each of our last two games would Coach keep it on the table? What is the record in a P5 game for total yards I wonder? Not cocky and counting on big days, especially in the cooler weather.

True, but USC SOS will go up considerably if they finish beating ucla,nd,and Oregon.

A one loss USC will never get in the playoff ahead of us with one loss. That became clear when the committee ranked LSU at #6 ahead of them.
If they win the PAC 12 that changes their next 3 games are also against top 20 teams so that will boost their SOS and SOR if they win. We still have a better resume but the championship will hold more weight as well as the recency of their wins. Now I don't think they win out... USC always drops a game to someone silly end of year.

The Heisman folks move the goal post year after year to fit the narrative of who they want to win. It’s a joke, they are going to give it to Stroud. Kinda hope they do and we get to play them and Hooker kicks that booty! All of making the Heistman voters look stupid!!!! GBO!!!

TN history - 4 runners up, no Heisman. Sadly I think Hooker is going to be runner up #5 just because he wont have top games to shine the next few weeks. We can blow out lesser opponents (and we will) but Shroud was always the favorite. I think it will be very close though.

Heisman Watch 2022: Top contenders, current odds and best moments

Top five candidates
i
1. C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State

Total points: 54 (first-place votes: 8)

Week 11 notables: Stroud's lead in this year's Heisman race took a hit with his performance in Week 10 against Northwestern, in which he threw for just 76 yards in a blustery wind. On Saturday against the Indiana, he proved he was back to his dominant play. He threw for 297 yards and five touchdowns to lift the Buckeyes to a 56-14 victory. Thanks to his hefty touchdown performance, Stroud is back tied with Maye for most in the FBS (34) after losing the lead last week.

Heisman odds: +120

i
2. Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee

Total points: 49 (first-place votes: 4)

Week 11 notables: Following the loss to Georgia, Hooker slipped from the No. 1 spot to No. 2. His 195-yard game with zero touchdowns and one interception caused worry. This week, he bounced back against Missouri to solidify his standing in second place and lead the Volunteers to a 66-24 Senior Day win. He threw for 355 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, three passing and one rushing. With South Carolina and Vanderbilt, respectively, left in the regular season, Hooker can continue to make his case over the next two weeks. He has thrown for 2,888 yards and rushed for 405 yards this season.

Heisman odds: +375
Wow, Stroud pulled it up on the powerhouses didn't he? He'll they might as well carve his name on the trophy

I really wished he had connected on some of those deep throws against Georgia even if we’d lost because I think that game will hurt him. The Heisman trophy used to be about a player the team couldn’t play well without. Records didn’t necessarily matter. Now days it’s about the record and is the team competing for a championship. If Hendon Hooker was not playing for Tennessee, we’d be about 7-2/ 6-3 and that’s what should get him the Heisman.

Another thing that really aggravates me over all of this hand wringing and excuse making by pundits to try and justify excluding 1 loss Tennesse from the playoff.

If the Crimson & White team had our same exact record in the here and now they'd all unanimously proclaim them a shoe in for the #4 spot...

The problem with Hooker is that there are several games that he only played little more than one half.

False equivalence for Obama to have ended up with 1 loss at the end they have to beat in UGA the championship game. Ut issue is because our loss to UGA we cant play in that game even though we are the best 2 teams much like how OSU and Michigan are poised. Michigan is actually ina worse situation than us because they lose to OSU an unless both TCUand USC lose a game they are out. assuming Michigan loses and everyone else wins out USC, TCU and UT are ahead of Michigan in that line.

I think you are correct that there are such things as “royalty” where the media and NCAA and officiating are concerned. (Eg Bama in football and UNC in basketball).
I still think 🤔 we are good shape this year as far as being either the first or second one loss team selected because of two things. Our strong SOS and our exciting brand of offense that the committee and ESPN knows will bring great ratings.

It's not false equivalence. It's a fact that Alabama will always get the nod that we don't. They were ranked ahead of unbeaten TCU in week 1 of the committee rankings. It's a moot point now though but they do get extra cred based on their historical status that has absolutely zilch to do with the fact they are way down from their usual standard this year.

That has nothing to do with our situation. Once we lost it completely changed our situation. Each week SOS and SOR changes. Other factors like Kentucky losing or Bama losing hurt our case.

You do realize everytime teams we beat lose it hurts us right? Especially the ranked or formerly ranked ones. Meanwhile TCU keeps winning. Trust me even if Bama has won vs LSU TCU would have passed them eventually as long as they keep winning out. Just like they passed us as long as they keep winning. The longer they won the harder it was to keep them out of the top4. Did Bama get some benefit of the doubt because they are Bama, sure but don't act like a Baby they have earned it. No one truly thought they'd cough up another loss before the SECCG.

UT has not earned the benefit of the doubt from anyone just like TCU hasn't yet. Our recent track record is not a good one. It sucks but it's true. I am 48 been a VOL fan all my life. For the last few (28 or so)years I literally have at least one piece of UT gear on me every day. The last 15 or so years have been a rough patch. So then not giving us the benefit of the doubt till we prove it is understandable. But trust me if we win out convincingly. Unless LSU breaks the world and beats UGA we are most likely fine. The chances both TCU and USC winning out are slim. Literally the worst things that could happen to us right now are UGA or OSU losing a game.

I understand how it works. And no, Bama does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. They look very bad this year and it took minor miracles for them to eek out wins against two terrible Texas teams. Committee rankings are based on this year's performance, not historical blue blood irrelevance. That's a fact and it aint whining. And here we have again today TCU once again squeaks by barely against Baylor. They're going to be a huge embarrassment if they sneak into the playoff ahead of us.

Not after tonight, but unfortunately this loss is mostly on our defense. But when it mattered most hooker was off and not accurate tonight.

Heisman standings after our loss to South Carolina:

1. C.J. Stroud (-125) OSU QB
2. Caleb Williams (+125) Southern Cal QB
3. Blake Corum (+1200) Michigan RB
4. Jayden Daniels (+3000) LSU QB
5. Bo Nix (+4000) Oregon QB
6. Max Duggan (+4000) TCU QB
7. Stetson Bennett (+5000) Georgia QB

Hendon completely out of the mix now.
Edit ...... ESPN still has him at #2
