Development of good OL guys takes 3-4 years. This was the Nebraska, Fulmer, etc secret for so many years. Reality was Tennessee wasn’t in position to sign any high 4 or 5 star OL guys in 2021 (Pruitt’s last class) or 2022 (Heupel’s first). No high rated OL was signing here until after Tennessee’s program showed a pulse in ‘22 season & NCAA penalties were finalized. Unfortunately most real good OL prospects in the 23 class had already committed or down to final 2 or 3 before ‘22 season had been played. They have a number of young OL prospects in the ‘24 class that appear promising but they’re not ready yet.

Too many of our fan base fail to realize where this program was when Mr. Peanuthead left. In perception of top recruits around the country, Tennessee was at the bottom of the SEC and had been most of those kids high school career. Tennessee wasn’t even recruiting top OL IN OUR OWN STATE most of Jones & Pruitt’s time here.

We experienced on the field this season some of the recruiting losses during the time bowl bans, etc were used by opponents to disparage Tennessee to top recruits. Heupel & staff came in 2nd on a lot of top kids who could have made a difference that didn’t need to take the risk by signing with the Vols with the NCAA cloud.
