Right up front, I concede I don't know much about the best thing for us in terms of seding & RPI, but I'm wondering which is the better scenario..KY winning or the Gators?

If I understand, a KY win tomorrow ensures us a 2 sede in the SEC tourney and therefore a 1st round bye, which is obviously good for our chances in the conference tourney, but in terms of perhaps getting into the bubble discussion for the NCAAs, would it not help our RPI the most for the Gators to upset KY since we beat Fla. twice?

What I'm hearing is that we'd need to get to at least 75 in the RPI to have an outside shot with the selection committee, so is that maybe more likely to happen with a Gator win tomorrow than with a Gator loss and our possibly losing our 1st game in the SEC tourney (even with a bye!)?

Pardon if this is already being discussed in another thread..just trying to sort this out in my head.

Thanks & GO BIG ORANGE, what a beautiful effort today!!!

Yes, Cats win and the Vols are #2 seed, Gators win and the Vols remain #3 seed.

A trip to the SEC tourney final will make it very difficult for the ncaa tourney committee to ignore the Vols.

We are already at 75 in the RPI and we don't want to be in UK's bracket.

Go CATS!

Would Florida beating KY help our RPI? And would it be worth giving up the #2 seed in the SEC tournament?

Either way, our RPI won't put us over the hump with the selection committee, but being the #2 seed in SEC might.

It'd help in the sense of our second game would be playing a ranked UF team vs an unranked Vandy team (and we might match up better against UF as far as the season has gone)

Only way I can see it hurt is if 1) playing UGA/MISS St would be a terrible neutral matchup or 2) people think UF will certainly beat us if we play them a 3rd time

#2 vs #3 probably won't make terribly that much difference as far as consideration goes...it's not like UF's consideration is lessened by finishing 4th; they'd still be ranked

2 seed gives us a better game in the 2nd round to win (which is all that matters at this point) worry about the semi matchup when its there to worry about.

we need to win that first game, that will open the door to talk about the AA tourney.

I really don't think we need to worry about Florida beating Kentucky.

Dont be surprised if we lose it. I think all UK fans would agree they would rather lose @ UF than in the NCAA T.

All im saying, is if you forced to pick a game that KY had to lose, it would be now. I want to go into the NCAA T on a winning note. If we lose during the SEC T, it takes away our momentum.

If we're the 2 seed we will play the winner of Ole Miss/Auburn. (2-0 vs Miss and Barn)
If we're the 3 seed we will play the winner of UGA/Miss. St. (1-2 vs UGA and MSU)

Take your pick.

who do we want to play in the semi's? Florida or Vandy? I would think think Florida but not sure which one would help our RPI more. I really think the team doesn't care. They just won't to beat whoeva whereeva wheneva howeva.

Then you also have to take into account whether you'd rather

be the 2 seed and play Vanderbilt again on a neutral court (as you're doing it, 1-1 vs Vandy)

or

be the 3 seed and play Florida again on a neutral court (2-0 vs UF, and they'd be [higher] ranked)

there's pluses and minuses with both ways of seeding
