Is it time for Buzz to go?

Should this be Buzz's last year?

Give it time. If he hasn't made the NCAA's in 2 years then it may be time to look elsewhere but if he is let go now you will get NO ONE BETTER! As everyone cries in football for the main reason to keep Fulmer and his staff around is stability which has hurt UT for 2 decades. Give the man 2 more years and see, he has produced everywhere else he has been and I think he can at UT but unlike the other schools UT is not a basketball school and it'll take longer to build a SOUND WINNING PROGRAM the RIGHT WAY.

Is there any evidence to suggest Buzz is building a program? Are the teams getting better? Looks like firing Jerry Green was the mistake - he didn't control his players but he was getting good ones and doing something with them. I just haven't seen anything from Buzz that suggests additional years will get us to the next level. Yes we are a football school but Bama, Georgia, LSU, MSU, UF to name a few have had more success in B-ball.

I appreciate the call for patience but there has to be a sign of better things to come.

I don't know if it's a matter of willingness to look - I'd like for Buzz to be successful. I find it hard to believe that any outside observer would take a deep look and say with any certainty that he has things going in the right direction. I think with Green we saw something different for UT B-ball - talent and winning. The problem was the punk attitude of the players that rubbed people wrong. Once you get a taste of what could be, you want more. It didn't take Green 4 years or 3 for that matter to achieve.

Ultimately, it's just board talk anyway. The one who has to "see it" is Hamilton. I do appreciate your spirited defense of Buzz and I'm not one to advocate changing coaches frequently. However, I think Green showed us there are good coaches out there that can come in and make a difference. So far, Buzz doesn't seem to be one of them. We have the talent to get to the tourny, if we do then I'll support Buzz. If we don't and either get to the NIT and bow out again first round or don't make it at all, then it's time to look elsewhere IMHO.

Right now UT doesn't have the talent to get to the tourney but it is coming. I think Buzz would be the first to tell you what is going on on the court is not going good but until he gets better than a lazy Crump and no defense Scooter then he has no other options. No it didn't take Green 3 or 4 years to win with O'Neills recruits and he not only let the players develop a "punk" attitude he basicly blew off the fans, alumni, boosters and administration with his Wal-mart attitude. I think he was a decent coach that had in no way any limits to what he would allow and the funny thing is where is he today? If he was that good he would be coaching a contending team.
Personally I don't think this team will do better than .500 this year but with the infusion next year if Gordon indeed does sign I expect an NCAA tournament berth and the way its looking for 2006 the infusion of talent on the hill will compare to the talent Ray Mears pulled in in the late 60's thru the Ernie and Bernie years then we'll see.
Your right in most ways the man he has to prove it to is Hamilton but also add in some of the biggest boosters also. I doubt very seriously his job is in trouble this year due to the incoming class. But also I think next year is his make or break year for the same fact of the talent of the incoming class and also he will have been given 5 years and didn't make it.

So here is my question. Why would any good recruit want to come play ball for UT when the grass is greener almost everywhere else? Do you not think that the program has to be stronger before we get big players to come and play? Granted we get lucky every now and then. I hope Lofton decides to stick it out because we might be able to build on him.

Lets see Gordon a 4 star player looks more and more like he'll sign with UT, which will put UT with a Top 15 class this year and ITs looking like a top 10 and maybe a top 5 class in 2006.

I see alot of comments that Buzz was the hot coach in the country when we hired him but I haven't seen anything about what he did before he came that made him the "hot" coach. Did he take a team deep in the NCAA finals or what? I don't know about his history.

There's no doubt that Buzz was the flavor of the month when we hired him. He won 20+ games his last 3 years at Appalachian State and took them to the NCAA tournament for the first time and then won 26 games and won the NIT at Tulsa in his only season there. That's what makes his record at Tennessee so perplexing - he's won everywhere he's ever been.
