Is Lane Kiffin the best offensive coach in college football?

There's little doubt that former UT head coach Lane Kiffin has been a part of some juggernaut offenses at USC and Alabama...

Hired by Al Davis at the child-like age of 31 to run a historic NFL franchise speaks volumes..

Is Lane Kiffin the product of a beautiful mind or is he a product of coaching the best college talent America has to offer? Combo?

The last few years AL Davis made some seriously dumb moves in all areas of football operations.

And having the best athletes always makes coaches look better. Period.

Lane Kiffin is a train wreck waiting to happen. He grew up in football and knows the game. Sadly he didn't grow up in life. He'll have the NCAA all over Houston within 2 years.

That's why with all with the talent we have he would kill everybody in this League if he came here. Kiffin would come here for the cheap.

Just keep in mind that Alabama won 3 National Championships under Nick Saban (2009, 2011 and 2012) before Lane Kiffin was their OC. Does anybody honestly believe that he will be missed at all when he leaves? If the answer is no... then he is not "the best offensive coach in college football".

A transfer QB under his tutelage and now a true freshman leading his offense in last 2 years....impressive

Product of over all talent or coaching?

It is a product of both talent and great coaching... My point is that it's not his coaching. Don't kid yourself, Alabama will be just as good without him. As long as their head coach is Nick Saban, they will continue to stockpile championships.

I think the local Houston beat writers will be paying a little more attention to coed social media reports in the near future...I'm think Joey Freshwater tries to make a splash in Houston.

Considering the talent that Alabama has been bringing in on the OL and at RB ever since Saban's arrival, I suspect I could play QB and be successful there.

Some of you all must've not seen Alabama this past decade. Many of his former assistants have challenged him and lost. It's not Saban's assistants that are responsible for the success. It's Saban himself.

Where would you rather live, bamaville or Houston ? It's not official yet but if he lands the gig I hope he's grown up and is ready to be a leader. The hate on here for the guy is funny. People hate him because he left us at the altar. On the other hand people think the NCAA will bring him down again. If that's true we should be thankful he's not in Knoxvegas. The person to throw venom on is Mike Hamilton.

No. A master play caller and developer of QBs? Yes.

Now Meyer, Leach and Briles ...

Is Lane Kiffin the product of a beautiful mind or is he a product of coaching the best college talent America has to offer? Combo?

Combo

There's no better innovator than Stitt imo

All indications are that Kiffin is bright, even gifted, at understanding the nuances of Xs and Os football.

And all indications are that he has a badly dysfunctional values system.

The bad news for him is that the latter is fiendishly difficult to improve.

There's a psychological model that organizes human behavioral patterns, from easiest to modify down to most difficult. At the top are behaviors, which are relatively very easy to change. A bit more settled in are habits. Below those are a person's attitudes. Yet deeper are a person's "value orientation" (most basic beliefs). And way at the core are a person's values.

And Lane's values are as rotten as the tree that fell in the forest ten years ago. So everything in his psyche that rests on top of his values-- his beliefs and attitudes, habits and behaviors -- are gonna be just as shaky and vulnerable to failure in the future as we've seen them be in the past decade.

So he may very well be one of the brightest offensive coordinators out there today, but I suspect he will never be a successful head coach, operating independently without a day-to-day boss and governor.

All of this Kiffin love is enough to make me sick.

Is he the best? No

I'd take the old pirate Mike Leach, Kliff Kingsbury, or Lincoln Riley over Kiffin.

Kiffin is probably 5th or 6th down the line of best OC's. Maybe over the years he has matured enough not to create baggage if he is promoted. Many off the field issues when he was in Knoxville that some seem to forget.

The best? Hard to say. Pretty much any OC will thrive in Sabans system. Kiffin has had tons of 4 and 5* talent at USC and Alabama. If he goes to Houston, he will likely have a Heisman QB to work with. Kiffin is good, but the best? Dont know about that.
